aegean Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I have decided to take the car back to standard 14" steel wheels with hub caps, so if anyone has up to 4 steel wheels they don't need/want, please let me know. Would prefer them to be in Melbourne, and I am in no hurry. I don't know if it'r relevant, but they are for a '74 2 + 2. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted September 12, 2009 Moderators Posted September 12, 2009 I don't think 260's ever came fitted with steel wheels. I've only known them with the alloys. 240Z came with the 14x4.5 / 5 steel wheels and an original set is worth quite a bit. Correct me if I'm wrong though.. Quote
aegean Posted September 12, 2009 Author Posted September 12, 2009 I am only going on original (Australian) brochures, which shows them with steel wheels. I am happy to be corrected. Quote
zzzzed Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 i think you might be looking at 240z brochures.I have never known a 260z to have steel wheels Quote
NZeder Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 The parts catalogue show a number of different part numbers for the steel wheels and the Alloy's were an option. This is for the whole RHD Export S30 range ie 240z/260z with no dates/as when the alloys were introduced. So it is correct that the 260z did have steel wheels just that most dealers would have included the alloys when doing the original sale - ie option them in and tell the customer that is how they come from the factory = add some more $$ to the sale = more margin. This was a common practice in the USA but did not know that is was done in our part of the world - either than or Nissan Australia did not let the dealers have the option of alloys and forced them to be sold with all 260z. zzzzed Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 well you learn something new every day. i don't think the caps would add any value to your car and personaly i think the alloys look 10 times better than the caps Quote
aegean Posted September 12, 2009 Author Posted September 12, 2009 Actually, I don't disagree with you, but I want to make it as stock as possible. If it was a high mileage, modified car, I wouldn't bother, but since it has yet to break 100,000 km, I just thought it would be a nice touch. I will keep the mags and have them refurbished. The spare incidentially is a steel wheel, so I presume they only fitted the mags to the 4 road wheels. Quote
nizm0zed Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 i have a full set of 14" steel wheels with 95% good brigestones on them, i even have some steel hubcaps to suit (not origional?). I will be replacing with mags at some point, but im in canberra. Im not really looking to sell, due to not having any other suitable rolling stock, but will consider any offers. Selling them would be a good excuse to pull my finger out and get some mags. crappy picture i know... Quote
aegean Posted September 12, 2009 Author Posted September 12, 2009 Let me know when you get some mags. I am not in a hurry and also don't need the tyres. Quote
dalee Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Good luck with the hunt. I was/am still after some steel wheels to go with my hub caps a little while ago. I was offered a set but, at $125.00 per wheel with no tyres I walked away. You know who you are. Quote
FuzzyDropbear Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Hey Dale, I'm pretty sure that my U12 has the same offset etc. as the Z. I've since put mags on it, but I still have the original steel wheels off ye olde' Pintara sitting in the shed. If you want, I'll bring some around and we'll see if they fit? Let me know if you're interested. Cheers. Quote
nizm0zed Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 I was offered a set but, at $125.00 per wheel with no tyres I walked away. You know who you are. :o Serious? They would be the same steel wheels used on several datsuns of the same era, probably most of the jap 4 stud cars of the era. I dont see how they would be hard to find, or justify a price like that. I could see $125 a wheel if they had brand new good quality tyres. Quote
dalee Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 :o Serious? Very serious, still have a copy of correspondence I was that shocked. Rob Thanks, I will give you a call and we can see if those wheels work. Quote
dazzed Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 if you can tell me the exact month of manufacturer of your vehicle , i may be able to help you , as this vehicle is a 74 build it is just on the changeover period , if it for concourse the wheels are dated to the build date , i have a full set of wheels and caps that are dated , so let me know, they are in like new condition tell me the date the car was built i will tell you if they corespond to your vehicle , cheers daniel Quote
aegean Posted September 14, 2009 Author Posted September 14, 2009 I can't tell you the production date, but the compliance date is 7/74 and the chassis number is GRS30 000692. I have the steel spare wheel, but the car is in storage at the moment, so I can't get to it to check the date on the wheel. Quote
chris240 Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Agean This is what I did.. when I bought my 240 it had the 260z 4 spoke standard 14x6 wheels, and I also had 4 of the original hubcaps lying about. I folded most of the tabs on the back of the hubcaps and as they are also 14" I managed to snuggly tap them onto the 260z 4 spoke mag...worked perfectly. It also allowed me to run 205 tyres.. Quote
