Agno Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Personally I run mechanical advance only (vac ports blocked off) on my L28. Timing should be close to 15deg @ idle (off the top of my head) but it depends on which 280ZX distributor you have as they all have varying levels of mechanical advance. Quote

I'm assuming you're running higher octane fuel? Unfortunately in CA we only have 91 available and that's with a good amount of ethanol mixed in. What does your timing advance to higher in the rev range? Quote
Six_Shooter Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Hmm alrighty very true. I can do that by just watching the timing with my gun while revving the engine up? Out of curiosity, what did you set your base timing at without the advance hooked up? Still ran way better than points I assume? Haha Thanks for the help by the way. I still have yet to find a definitive answer on this subject as to the best solution. "Best" would probably be getting a custom curve.. It's been about 5 years since I ran the carb set-up so I don;t recall what I set base timing to, and likely did it by feel. I know when I swapped to the EFI, I set base timing to 10* and then used the SA table in the ECM to make actual timing adjustments. Quote
Iceberg Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Bumping an old thread. Asking Viczcar for rescue. So I picked up a 280zx dizzy with 12-80 module, also purchased Boch GT40 coil. Now that is installed I am getting very weak spark and I can't work it out. The resistor is removed so maybe I have burned the coil? Any other tips? I really want to get it running properly for the carburettor tune as soon as possible, I haven't driven the old girl for a month now. Quote
