I have cancer.....in my 260z floor pan.

I was hoping someone can recommend panel beater who specialises in Z's or is familiar with repairing the pan area.  I need it repaired for roadworthy but initially was going to do a patch job but might as well do it right now so I don’t have to worry about it again.

I think it was repaired cause there’s a cork membrane and black stuff on the floor.  Is this standard?

Planning to use it as a weekender and eventually strip in back for a full bare metal re-spray and restoration.

The body is straight with only a few minor imperfections.  Engine was rebuilt 25,000 km ago, gear box changes smoothly and clutch needs replacing – soon.

I also need tyres.  Should I stick with the white walls?

Best guy I know is Rob at the Z Factory in Mordialloc. Has done those repairs hundreds of times..

Cork is used as a cheap alternative to dynamat sound proofing and bitumen tar the same however usually used on underbody to help lessen / prevent stone damage

That's fairly superficial for a Zed as has been said. I would definitely try Rob at ZFactory in Mordialloc he did some rust repair work on my Zed and knows them backwards.

I kinda like the white wall tyres, they lift and balance the look of the 2+2 and give it the boulavarde' highway cruiser that it is an bit of a glitzy style...eye catching!!

I am surprised for "my" assumed price you probably paid for that car that it should have any rust in the floor.

My 2+2 (which is original) has carpet and thick underlay insulation under it straight onto the floor but not the same bitumous look like you have but a similar but factory prepared finish and certainly no cork?

I think it has probably had a hole in the floor for a long time and the noise traveling through would be herendous coming into the interior especially if the car has extractors. The same raucous noise is transferred through the gear rubber boot if you have a hole in it. Lynton  8)

I didn't pay anywhere near what the car was advertised for on car sales.  It was way less than half that.

I only noticed the hole in the pan when the car was up on the hoist.

After closer inspection the membrane isn’t cork.  I think it’s the dynamat sound proofing stuff and sound thru the floor wasn’t noticeable cause it had a thick underlay and carpet sitting on top

I spoke to Rob today so I’ll bring the car down next week and get him to check it out.  He sounds like the man for the job.

And I think I’ll keep the white walls.  they certainly add that cruiser feel......

Thanks everyone for the feedback

..immaculate...far from it.  hence the reason why it sold for way less than half.

Sorry about the double up pic's.  keep selecting the same ones...obviously
