waxhead Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 Here is a downloadable pdf that will show the details on how to do it http://www.skyline-gtr.nl/RB30_DOHC_Guide.pdf Quote
Zeddophile Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Its the rb26 that uses the bigger studs and it thought I would have to change the rb30 block to fit the bigger studs but I spoke to rips about it he told me that his datsun race car uses the smaller studs on an rb26 head. If he can do this then im ok with running the smaller studs lol Generally speaking, a lot of cars the headbolts/studs aren't a close fit in the head anyway, so as long as there are decent dowels in place, and the head nut gets good clamping forces on the head, it shouldn't be a huge issue IMO. If you wanted you could get some sleeves made up to sit inside the holes in the head to bring the diameter down to the smaller studs.... Quote
waxhead Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 Yeah thats a good point you could make sleeves to do that I wont be doing it myself but its a good idea if you wanted to do it I will get a set of arp studs and just leave it with that The head has 4 dowels in it Quote
garvice Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 But it means your zcar will do this if you want it to Which of course would be a very handy thing to be able to do Especially if you own a tire shop. Quote
garvice Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 I am surprised that you didn't go this route with your oil pan. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=150085 Quote
waxhead Posted September 12, 2009 Author Posted September 12, 2009 Yeah i looked at that It looks awesome but this was just easier Quote
waxhead Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 Got my rb30 off ebay It cost me a mere $20 , so its all stripped down and will be off to get hot tanked on monday Looking at the conrods you can see why there is no need to run forged rods in the rb30det engines Quote
RB30X Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 It probably had over 200k on the engine but you'll still see the original honing marks. Seen it several times when stripping RB's. Quote
waxhead Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 Yeah its looks like it will be ok Im going to put new bearings and rings in it and call it done Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted September 20, 2009 Moderators Posted September 20, 2009 Wax, grabbed a pic of the Patrol sump fitted un-modified and what ground clearance you have...you can understand the need for the mod you did! Quote
waxhead Posted September 21, 2009 Author Posted September 21, 2009 Thanks for that I was working on my engine today I checked the sump versus an rb30 one other than the bulge being at the other end the capacity etc are all the same. I finished the pick up and very happy with that Next thing is to check the pickup for leaks but i don't see it being an issue The Engine was sent off to be hot tanked today and hopefully will have it back on wednesday. ready to put back together next week Still unsure as to what oilpump to run but thats hardly an issue The panel beater is coming around tomorrow and he is going to spend a week on it, he believes he can get it finished with inside a week. Tomorrow I will remove the engine (l28) finally and get it on a crate so i can ship it off to the buyer.( thanks for your patience) So its all go at the moment, I have a few engine port jobs coming in as well so that will pay for the zg flares etc Quote
waxhead Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 Well got into the car big time today Dash is out so i can get behind at the rust Well i will let the pics do the talking Quote
waxhead Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 I found a bit of extra rust as well In the heater duct but not to bad will be easy to fix Im pulling the air con out is the old aircon worth anything Quote
Brabham Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Member Dave Dimo on here wants the aircon. See his post in wanted section. Quote
waxhead Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 OK i will contact him Thanks for that Quote
zzzzed Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Wow i feel better after seeing those last pics I only just started fixing a spot of rust in almost the same spot. I also fond some in the4 heater duct. I think i might have to cut the heater duct right out to fix it Quote
waxhead Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 Yeah its bit bad than I thought for a car thats supposed to been back to the metal However it can be fixed I will post pics of it fixed in the next couple of days I have had the back done under the car and we are getting on to the rest of the panels now Quote
waxhead Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 I have been busy building some engines for other people so not much to report on car But did start to reassemable the rb30, with the twin cam head I also finished porting the rb26 head up so just have to recut the valves now and its ready to go Quote
waxhead Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 MY diff turned up today Man how heavy is a r200 it almost broke my back Seems its a 3.7 diff im guessing that will be just fine Well I have no intention of changing it just yet Quote
Scando Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Yeah they're bloody heavy compared to an R180 hey! At least the weight is low and towards the back of the car though. What size wheels are you running and what do you intend to rev the RB to? Quote
waxhead Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 Hell yeah scando they are heavy, my back was hurting after that The rb30 im planing on soft cutting at about 7000-7200 and hard cut at 7500 Im thinking with the reputation these engines have for torque that i will not have to rev its head off Also with the 3.7 diff its going to be high geared so im looking to build a torque monster The std cams will be staying in it so that it has a good idle and driveabilty , yeah i guess im getting old Quote
Scando Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 I'm running a 3.7 with 17's and it pulls around 230km/h at 6000 rpm. Even if you're running 15's or 16's you should still be able to cruise at 100 at under 3000rpm which is always nice for a road car. A guy I race against runs a 25/30 in an R31 coupe and also runs a 3.7 with 17's. It still pulls very well down low but it does have 592hp and 600nm! He seems to think a 3.9 would be spot on but a Z is a lot lighter than a R31 so i'd say the 3.7 should be pretty good Quote
waxhead Posted October 9, 2009 Author Posted October 9, 2009 Thanks for that information Im not looking to get quite that much out of my 26/30 but its good to know its a good combo Your right this is going to be a streeter so will be nice to have the cruising ability Quote
Brabham Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Hey how are you going with the 30/26? I am thinking of going that way now... Quote
waxhead Posted December 27, 2009 Author Posted December 27, 2009 OK well engine is coming along nicely Got the n1 turbos for it Just drumming fitting everything and will put it all together in the next week or so Just not sure in my head what colour to paint then engine yet You can see the mount for the castlemain kit to fit the rb series engine into the 260z Quote
