I've just got some koni reds and king low springs for my 71 240z, on the front springs one end of the coils are bound closer than the other, which end goes to the top and I don't have any bumpstops, would these be recommended?

For the sake of a few $'s. Put in bumpstops.

It is unlikely but, it only takes one big bang of a speedhump or large pothole to overtravel the suspension. Especially for a lowered vehicle with adjustable shocks.

Bad thing about the Koni's, once they bottom out, time for rebuild to fit new valving!

I think your right I should just install some bumpstops, I've got some for the other z so I'll just use them, did anyone cut their bumpstops down?

I did check over at hybridz in regards to which way the front spring goes and it seems to be divided, if i install in reference to the writing right way up on the spring the bound coils would be at the bottom, they also say the rear spring is usally longer, whereas these are slightly longer in the front ???

Pauly I thought you installed koni red earlier this year?

Yes mossy I have Koni Red's and I used Monroe Strut Mates with them..

If your paying out good money on Koni's a $100 more wont hurt..

Strut Mate

Too often a new strut or cartridge is fitted with the old original and damaged suspension travel limit bushing (compression bumper) and dust boot. The Monroe Strut Mate kit includes a high quality, soft entry urethane compression bumper, a new dust boot, retaining strap and fitting instructions.

Product features

Premium quality microcellular urethane bumper

Had the rear konis put in today and fully tightened the gland nut but noticed it doesn't tighten all the way down against the strut, is this okay?

If you mean the nut doesn't get to sitting flush to the strut tube before it clamps down on the shock insert, then yes, I'd say its okay.  Pretty sure mine did the same thing....  As long as the shock itself is held firm, should be fine.

You don't want it to tighten all the way down as it means that its not tight on the insert. About 1mm or so is good. That looks like a big gap, is there full thread engagement? If all the thead is in (from memory there is an undercut before the shoulder), it should be ok.

Yep there is full thread engagement, I just bought another 240 strut for my other z and it looks the same with a gap so should be good.

In regards to the front springs I rang kings and they told me to put the closer bound springs at the top.
