Hi All,

My brother-in-law and I met up at my mum's today and starting chewing the fat about whats happening with "Rose" (my car) and my plans for the old girl, well one thing led to another and I mentioned the "G-Nose" (fibre glass) kit from the states and how it was a pity that it was more or less a one piece job as oppossed to the multi part kit as originally supplied and the fact that its in glass rather than carbon.

Well, happens he is in the aero industry and suggested if I got one we could probably get a cast made and have it reproduced in carbon as a multi piece kit.

So the question is, before I go and spend thousands on one and getting this done, what would be the interest in this forum if a high quality multi piece carbon kit was available for say $1000 (no flares)

Cheers

John

Apparently there is a fella in Japan who makes the best replica's of the Gnose, since the factory stopped making them years ago. Everyone who has a genuine HS30-H Fairlady 240zg goes to him if they have an accident or damage their original nose cone.

I can't recall the website off the top of my head, but I do know one exists for this guy. I think from memory pricing was about $5000 AU.

If you could reproduce it exactly like the original (I would be extremely fussy mind you) I would be interested, but I fear the cost of tooling and reproduction would cause it to be an expensive venture and I'm not sure how many fellas in Australia truly appreciate the G-nose style. It really is something you have to judge in person and it does look awesome, but cheap copies have tainted it over the years.

The headlight covers are probably the most expensive part of the exercise too. At $700 AU plus for the chrome strip.

OK,

Here are some pics of what I have found so far, the kit would be along the lines of the "OEM" nose in the top left of the pic, the one on the right is an aftermarket.

The guy we have in mind is a carbon fibre parts manufacturer, and would use my car as a template along with the nose I would buy from a US supplier.

Since my car has never had structural repairs to any of the skirts rad support etc except for the RHF guard, I think we could get a very tight good fit.

I can see these selling OS also regardless if the AU dollar goes up or down.

Im going to do one for mine regardless and then sell off the imported one I purchase, guess we can see who wants one after that, the proof in the pudding will be hanging off the front of my car.

Cheers

Guys don't Alpha fibreglass motorsports make a Gnose $500 for FG and three times as much for CF

I dont know the quality but they are a recommended business. Just trying to save you from sinking 1000's of dollars and your time into making a mould if something of similar quality is available right here in Melb. Just my 2c it would be helpful if someone had a pic of there kit.

*The gnose has really grown on me...never liked the look when i was first looking for a zed, i'd be looking to get one in the next few years when i will be considering buying another 240 matching numbers and early build. And chuck a gnose on my current Z with the flare and fat ass wheels. Or i could just buy a actual ZG hahaah ;D dreamer

Well all the best if you do attempt this, is the US supplier Datsun Spirit? If it is Eiji his kit will be top quality, I'd have to see the original and the copy side by side to decide if it would be what I want. I have been seriously thinking of a ZG replica for a while now but I want to make sure its done right and over the years I've seen some hideous looking ZG noses.

I believe the original ZG nose cone design was also penned by Yoshihiko Matsuo the S30 designer himself.

Yeah it was Fibreglass, apart from the actual bumper part which was expanded urethane foam

Just good Japanese top of the line Fibreglass :) I have 4 of the 5 pieces of an original G-Nose (only the lower section was damaged and replaced years ago) and the quality is far better than any FG I have seen before - looks almost plastic like.

Don't go near the showcars products - I have heard this from another of guy state side. They require a lot of work to fit and look 1/2 decent.

Brain aka zccjdm.com makes good products and is good to deal with also I recommend his business a source of zed parts :)

not for me, but it's a great idea.

but if you are going to go through with the hassle and expense...surely you would be better off buying the highest quality multi-piece fg g-nose you can. making a high quality multi piece replica from a one piece knock off seems like a difficult task.

maybe speak to Ben at otomoto and see if he can get you one, he may even be able to source a carbon one, but i guess the interest for you is getting your friend to make one up..
