Administrators gav240z Posted February 5, 2009 Administrators Posted February 5, 2009 Hi Everyone, I had this idea a while ago, but thought it might be a bit tricky to implement. I was thinking a tool shop board could be useful for members to exchange / lend / borrow / rent / (whatever) tools from each other. The recent Spindle Pin puller thread got me thinking about various tools we might need for a 1 off job and we could get an exchange program going so that members can help each other out. I'd be interested in hearing feedback from members. I could enable a "Karma" setting on the forum so that members who lend out tools can receive "good karma points". Some issues may be: - Tools returned damaged / broken - Tools lost or missing - Tracking who has what tools etc.. - Lost term tools rotissorie (spelling?) Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 5, 2009 Moderators Posted February 5, 2009 I think it's a good idea, specialy like you said for those one off jobs that dont justify a big spend for one thing you will only do once in your life! As for the tools that are lost or broken, you would hope the borrower/lender is honest enough to say "sorry, I damaged your tool..how much do I owe you?". Or am I living in a dream world? I do have a few tools I'd be happy to lend and have done before; I have some spring compressors and a carby balancer. But there's a saying that I'm sure alot of people have heard.. "lending your tools is like lending your wife; they both come back f$%#ed!" Hope that won't be true if we do start this tool shed.. Quote
stevo_gj Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Since we are all members of the same forum I don't think we are likely to have many instances of tools being borrowed and returned damaged without any money to repair them. I think this is a good idea. And karma points is great too whenever someone is helped by another forum member they can nominate karma points to that person... Keeping in mind that karma points are non refundable Quote
Scoota G Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I'm sure i mentioned this before but i have one of those Gas/Gasless migs that sits in my shed 98% of the time. Quote
Glen Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 im not sure what i have but id be happy to lend out what i have got. Quote
Jospef Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 How about who ever is borrowing the tool(s) leaves some kind of collateral with the lender? Quote
Mr240z Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 How about who ever is borrowing the tool(s) leaves some kind of collateral with the lender? jospef I dont think you know what there trying to do here. They mean if you need a special tool for a job ,eg spindle pin puller They will send the tool by post, you use it and send it back with some payment like postage to cover costs etc. If you were to leave some collateral that means sending money or your house for example though the mail and thats were it gets hard and time wise. So we have to trust each other to make this work. You break it, you own it or do the right thing and replace it. This is how its down on Hybridz in the states. p.s I think this is what were trying to do................................ Pauly Quote
Jospef Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Yeah, I was thinking more like several localised 'Tool sheds'. Quote
