Toecutter Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 When I bought my lowered King Springs that is all I aksed for at the suspension place about 7 years ago. The advised I'd get a drop of about 1.5" inches, they did, the ride was good with the new KYB's and that was it. But now I'd like to know what spring rates they would have been!? Do they have a standard rate for their lowered springs for the Z and only deviate from that if you ask? If so does anybody know what that spring rate is? Sulio Quote
C.A.R. Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I believe it's around 180lbs at the spring, Sulio. I think Alan also mentioned a rate, he was told? Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted November 7, 2008 Moderators Posted November 7, 2008 Lurch's rate sounds about right. When I bought a set many years ago I asked what rate; the salesman peeked in his "book" and told me around 180-200 Lb/in. If we had a spring compressor we could find out exactly...unless anyone knows someone Quote
ZED660 Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 I had some lowered King springs checked a while ago and the progressive front ranged from 100-170lbs when compressed while the linear rears were 120. I later changed to Lovell springs which were linear front and rear and I was advised they were 148 front and 160 rear. The free height for these was 305mm front and 311mm rear which I trimmed to get the ride height I wanted. Quote
Toecutter Posted November 7, 2008 Author Posted November 7, 2008 OK, I'll call Kings to see what they say. Thanks guys. Just on a side note the idea of Tokico Alumina's might not be such a cost effective option with our Dollar at low rate of mid 60's. Including shipping to Melb best I could find works out to about $850.00. I reckon I could get a 5 way adjustable Koni for a little more than that. Say $1000.00. Will do some research tonight. C.A.R. Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Umm, 5 position adjustable or 'X' way adjustable, Sul? They are two very different thing's... Quote
reverendzed Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 I don't want to hijack here but it prompts a question i've been asking. I recently lowered my car but had the front bottoming out on the shocks (which were in good condition) if I want to stay that low which I really liked! what are my alternatives? Rev. (the reason I ask at this point is that if I have to buy what others are buying we could either get a group buy or save on freight?) Quote
C.A.R. Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Not good to hear Dave Is it Bad? Perhaps those Rubber/Urathane rings do have to go in under the strut top? Quote
reverendzed Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 it was bad enough to make me take out the king springs and modify my old ones for the front, goes good now however I much preferred the 'stance' it had when we lowered it. I'd like to take it back to that if you have any ideas? Quote
luvemfast Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 I think that you can use MR2 front inserts. They are the same dimensions only shorter in length. Making them perfect for lowering 1.5" or more. Quote
C.A.R. Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 I read something about that on HybridZ. I wonder which model MR2... Quote
Toecutter Posted November 8, 2008 Author Posted November 8, 2008 I think that you can use MR2 front inserts. They are the same dimensions only shorter in length. Making them perfect for lowering 1.5" or more. Yes I've also read this. As Lurch asked which model? Just a general question, the series 1 260Z, the early 74. Now I know it has the shorter rear strutt towers but does that mean it uses the same shock at the rear as a 240z? And as for the front are they also same as the 240z? Reason I ask is that Tokico list part numbers for both as suitable for 240z from 1970 to 9th month 1974 including 260z built before this date so I assume they mean series 1 260z!? Can anyone clarify please, and thank for the heads up on the MR2 point Luvemfast!? Cheers, Sulio Quote
