jeez where do you start..

after you spend a weekend working on a 260 you may need to take a panadol....If you work on a 240, you need nurofen-plus !! ;)

hey learner, welcome. some real quick differences are that 240 was available in Australia from i think 1969 - 1973 and only available in the 2.4, 2 seater coupe whereas the 260 was produced from 1974 - 1977/78 and available in the 2.6 Lt and had the option of 2 seater coupe or 2+2 (4 seater).  Parts for the 240 are often much harder to find as they are with certain parts on the 260 coupe, the most available parts are for the 260 2+2.

Hope this helps.

Parts wise both cars are similar (from the windscreen forward) but between 240 & 260 from the windscreen back are slightly different. Dashboards are different, doors and interior panels. Mechanically they are mostly identical. Major differences are in some interior parts and rear lights. This was just a quick general comparison between zeds; 2+2's are again different to 240 & 260 2 seaters. I'll need hundreds of pages to list them all!

And welcome!

pictures are better than words in this case.

first up, the dashes are different.

240z dash.

260z dash. see how the sides of the dash around the heater controls are a lot squarer?

240z rear lights. see how the reverse lights are integral to the rest of the real light housing.

2 seater shape. has 260z style rear lights

2+2 shape. see how the rear quater window is a differnet shape, the rear hatch is also different. also has 260z style rear lights. the surrounds are slightly different too, they have two little raised parts just inwards of the reverse lights.

the 2+2 also have longer doors. (bloody taxi's :P)

Zedman240, THank you, interior doesnt bother me, it will be a track car for some time...mainly just in the shape and so on..

THanks rev, its a great help any information i can take in is good..

Looking at a 2+2 seater... on ebay considering it and talked to me dad just gotta wait for house to sell and get into this new house. then if the guy still has it wil go for a drive and check it out...

Next question is are they the same weight.. i read some were the 260 is heavier because of some new laws that came out about the chassis. Could be wrong so dont hold me on that..!@! I wouldnt be asking :P

And! Suspension set ups in both..?? any difference.. Hard to upgrade..??

So i am sure i will come up with alot more questions... But all you guys seem switched on and know what your doing and i really appreciate it..!! THANK YOU!!

Wrong.  The 240Z went on sale in Australia in late 1970.

nism0zed I think you were a little unfair on the 2+2 with the photo you posted. LOL.

Here is a picture of a nice looking 2+2 these cars can look good. I tried to find the silver one with flares from ireland but I could not.

gee hunter, you wouldn't be implying that im biased towards the 2 seaters would you? ;D

actually it was just one of the first pics that came up on google images, that was sitting in roughly the same angle as the 2 seater.

Learner, if your considering the car for track/motorsports use, have a look at what is available (mod wise) for the class(s) you want to compete in, it may be easier for example to go for a 260 over a 240 for the larger motor, if engine swaps arent allowed.

Us stationwagon owners are a proud lot ;D And there is no greater joy for me than to stick a couple of my Zed loving boys in the wagon and burn up some road!

I need to know this too, for the sake of my RB25 head and RB30 block sitting in my shed.  I hope the 2+2 is a tad bit heavier than the 2 seater because those parts need a home and they don't want to be separated......

These are the weight differences between 2 seater and 2+2:  2425lb (2str),/2630lb (2+2) or approx 1100Kg (2 seater) and 1193Kg for the 2+2.  Hope this helps.

Best news I've had all day.  1193kg*3 = 3579cc can anyone say RB30DET time?!
