I am missing the trim for the transmission tunnel in my 240,

wondering where I can find a black trim anywhere,

nobody seems to wreck 35 year old cars anymore.

Even if I could locate some of the material, it is the same black material that also covers the wheel arches in the 240.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks,

Jack.

Surely there has to be someone in Oz wrecking their 240 or somebody selling the diamond vinyl?

Can't believe that there is none in Australia.

You'll probably find that the vinyl in an cars for wrecking is not in great (ie usable) condition. When I started restoration of 240Z #388 (now sold) I found the only place to get anything decent was OS. Of course the early 240Z's had some unique parts, inc (from memory), the 'coarse' diamond pattern on the tunnel, etc trim. The stuff for later cars (post about mid '71) was a bit easier to get hold of, but new was still the only real way to get the 'good stuff'.

I agree with Lambs there are places that can redo the interior based on samples like Auto reupholsterers but the best thing to do is save some cash and get it from the US. Ebay is often a good source but as Warren said www.datsunrestore.com

I'm considering making my interior all white. :D

Thanks for your replies,

I found a place that can make a perfect copy to fit the transmission tunnel.

Should have the carpets and vinil fitted in the next few weeks,

Should also have some more progress pictures up once I figure out that pixel limit.

Cheers,

Jack

They do actually weld the vinil, as they use vinil with a special material on the back of it so it doesn't melt when welding.

I'll get back to you with the results once I've had it done,

but from the samples I've seen it should be exactly as the original black ninil I have covering wheel arches etc.

Cheers,

Jack.

Had some difficulty with Vinil.

The stock diamonds are 2.5 inches by 1.5,

But the smallest possible that they could make was 3 by 3.

Cost $35,

Picking it up on Monday.

Putting the Vinil in on Thursday as well as carpets as I got Automotive underlay for free yesterday and my carpet kit came in on Tuesday.

Cheers,

Jack.

Yer I got my trim made up. I managed to find diamond vynil in about 1.5x1.5 inch and got it stiched to original from the old ones.

Nathan, I think your aiming to have your trim looking like that yellow Z featured in Zoom mag a couple of years ago. If you get it looking that good it will be a very nice interior indeed. Will try and find some pics.
