Its hard to say without looking at it, but it looks like it would need a lot of rust repairs done. I would almost guarantee both the floor pans would need replacing and probably the frame rails too.

Then all the little stuff like trims around doors, rubbers, bushes etc need replacing, engine probably needs rebuild. A new/recon dash will set you back about $1000 bucks alone if you need one.

It does need a heap of work and depending if you can do it yourself depends on the restoration cost.

Like I said, hard to guess how much its worth without looking or lots more photos, but in my opinion, probably not worth more than maybe $1500 because its just a starting block for lots of work.

Others may say more many will probably say less.[/u]

I agree with Mr Datto above, lots of work here. I can't tell for sure but it looks like it had/has a sunroof. That alone is alot of work to replace with a solid roof.

I'd offer $500 at the most, especially since most of the good parts look to have been picked off.

Ebay however has been finding buyers willing to pay way more.

Hi

For what it is worth............

As Gav said I would not be offering anymore than $500. You are looking at a sh... load of work here.

Looking at the photo's you would have to say it is in poor condition so when you go digging in all the regular places I think you will find serious rust.

If you plan to do all the body work yourself and are a good mig welder then maybe the resto cost is reasonable but if you plan to pay someone to do the body work then you are talking big $'s

Then again some higher priced cars with only a little bit of rust in all the usual places mostly need the same rust repair sections done at a similar price.

What is your overall plan and what is your budget?

If you can get it for free take and if the rust is too bad use it for parts.

The budget that I have to spend on car right now is $1000 (that's including the original purchase of the vehicle).

The plan is to get the car cheaply and restore it over the next 2-3 years.

I was planning to get the body into reasonable condition by myself with ahelp of my mate who is a welder and then paint it simple white color at another mates paintshop.

I do not plan to keep the carstock and restore it to original condition.

Mechanically - I was planning to get an rb30e out of a r31 skyline or a 3.8l V6 outof a vn, simply because those engines are easier to find the parts for and have slightly better power stadard, while remaining P-plates legal (considering their relatively high mass).

So any other opinions on that car?

PS I wish I could get it for free.

Rust will be your biggest enemy. There are heaps of posts on the net when it comes to looking for rust on S30's. Usual spots are frame rails under car, floors, door jams, bottom of doors, battery tray area including fire wall, beaver panel under hatch , around rear hatch hinges and the hatch itself. As you can see from that list these cars can be money pits if you tick yes to all those areas.

I think the best advice is if you not in a rush save a liittle more money and go for something that is a better base. I think you'll have a good chance of finding a reasonable car for your intentions for about $3-4K.

To answer your question about the car shown above I would'nt pay more than $500, especially seeing it has a hole in the roof.

Good luck, what ever your desicion is.

Hi

Major visible rust to floor pans, frame rails, sills etc will be be a problem for roadworthy inspection.

I agree with Sulio's advice. Read the acticles on where to look for rust and have a real close look at the car.

May be it is not as bad as we are presuming.
