Hood280zx Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 Hi guys, I have recently moved from Perth over to Brisbane for work and I am looking at moving my 280ZX over with me. Has anyone had any experience with the best/cheapest way to do this? As it's a WA registered car, is it worth keeping it as a WA registered car or transferring over to Queensland? Any advice would be appreciated! Cheers, Louis Quote
260DET Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/ should help re rego, on transporting the Z the subject does crop up occasionally but I'm not sure if a search will pick the topics up. Quote
RAP260 Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 (edited) Firstly, welcome to Queensland The whole state appears to be stuck in the 70's, but you'll get used to it. I'm from NSW originally, so I know what I'm talking about I'd absolutely transfer it to Queensland registration. We don't have annual inspections here. Register it.....then drive it till it has so much rust the wheels fall off.....that way you'll fit in with the locals. Lol Cheers, Rob Ps. Sorry I didn't have anything constructive to add. gilltech Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 (edited) A car from another state must be registered for Qld within 14 days. One can apply for a refund on the previous registration. And one must also obtain a Qld drivers licence. Edited June 19, 2018 by gilltech Quote
RAP260 Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 It's 14 days. Not worth the trouble not doing it. Cheers, Rob Quote
RAP260 Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 (edited) Hey @Hood280zx I've been doing some searching on this site for info on the transport costs, but not really finding anything. Maybe someone else can see something?. I'm sure I've seen something, but can't find it. FWIW, it cost me a $1000 from SA to here, when I bought my car . So I'd be guessing $2000 at least? Sorry I can't be more help. Hopefully someone here has done this. Cheers, Rob Edited June 19, 2018 by RAP260 Quote
AndBir Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 My son used Prixcars 12 months ago and was happy with their service, go to their website and you should get a price of ~$1,200 for a 280zx move Perth to Brisbane. RAP260 1 Quote

PZG302 Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 How long will you be in Qld for? If it's permament then look at transferring the rego. If you still have a WA address keep the WA rego, Qld is now the highest cost rego in the country. When I first moved up to Qld from NSW I kept one car with NSW for 12 months longer than I should of, got asked once why as it had been seen with the out of state plates for a few months, just said my work contract was extended. For transporting the car, I can only suggest the usual suspects, you might be able to score a backload, or if there is nothing to be put in the car general freight companies may also look at it for a back load. I used to regularly send a Falcon ute fitted out with video gear for road surveys between Brisbane and Perth, it went by general freight companies on the back of a truck, in car carriers and by train in a container.
