crowe
G'day Everyone, I have just joined VicZcar. It is great to finally find a Aussie Z site where there is some activity and forums etc etc. Very cool indeed. Sulio put me onto the site and I am most grateful. I am midway through restoring a 76 260Z and based in regional QLD. I am a bit isolated so it is definitely good to see some online activty and ideas sharing. I was wondering if anyone had ever had the orginal sports steering wheel from a ZED restored and contact details etc etc, Mine has seen better days and the moulded rubber is falling off and pretty much beyond repair. I would like to saty orginal if i can but alternatively i could get an aftermarket wheel, any suggestions on brands etc that fit nice with correct offsets from indicator and wiper stalks. I have been through previous posts and not found much so ideas and your experiences would be great. I also uploaded some resto pictures to the gallery which i think worked okay, not very exicting but pictures none the less. cheers, callum
Zeddophile
I'm going to go an aftermarket wheel, one I have my eye on is the Motorsport Auto black leather item from the US.... http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=50-3117&Category_Code=SWE Keeping my eye out for anything similar over here, I like the non contoured rim and plain steel spokes.... Very hard to find something so simple that looks decent though.
Toecutter
hey Callum, good to see your pics. I've got an aftermarket woodgrain wheel with alloy center. I beleive they sell for about $250. Looks very nice but I noticed that during the Arthuers Seat cruise my hands had a little bit of sweat on them whilst gunning it uphill through the tight and windy corners. I found that the steering wheel got a little slippery and for practical purposes a rubber or vinyl steering wheel might work a little better. Cheers Sulio

ol_skl_jp
Do you know what size these steering wheels are? I would like to know also, what is the diameter of the stock 240 steering wheel? Want to upgrade my aftermarket steering wheel (smaller diameter), to one that is roughly the same diameter as the factory one. Cheers Sach

zedevan
i was looking to buy one of these, even bought the boss kit for it but now i haven't got a need for a steering wheel in my zed! i reakon these nardi deep corn 350mm are the nicest old school looking wheel around, i'm not to crash hot on the red stitching but seems to be all anyone currently sells (found a place that had 1 with blue stitching :s) the OD of the 260z wheel is around 370mm from memory, i'm not sure if wheels are ment to be measured from the mean diameter or what, as the thickness of the wheel it would change it a bit... sco_aus
If anyone is interested, I have 2 original steering wheels with the woodgrain outside, alloy spokes and big black centre. One is in good condition, the other needs a little bit of work.
24OZ
i reckon the Motolita wood with alloy spokes with holes/slots in them look the ducks nuts....very period and classy with a hint of racing not cheap though($400) and best ordered from there factory in the UK,which is in the grounds of an old racetrack i think

C.A.R.
Just remember if your going to compete in any forms of motorsport, woodrim steering wheels (except the fake wood rim (acrylic)) are now banned due to safty issues. So the woodrim Motolita one's are out

PZG302
It may be worth having a look at the Autotechnica website. They have some pretty good old school style wheels, I have bought one of the Monza Racer wheels for my Charger restoration, a lot cheaper than paying $200 plus for a second hand wheel that needs to be rebuilt Link is:http://www.autotecnica.com.au/steering_wheels_2.html
