Administrators gav240z Posted April 8, 2016 Administrators Share Posted April 8, 2016 Hi Guys, I just thought I'd share this device. I originally found it here: http://www.mysandman.com.au/forums/showthread.php/746-AM-Radio-Adapter-for-the-Ipod-MP3 Then found the manufacturer here. https://rediscoveradio.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=1 Before you know it, you could be enjoying some: Peppino Gagliardi - Che Vuole Questa Musica Stasera Via your OEM Hitachi Radio . 1:17 in Ponyo240z
TDoherty
Hi Gav, Looks great, but regrettably I have a blanked hole in my dash and would love to buy a period radio - working or even not so long as the face etc looks good. Have actually got used to using a neat little Bluetooth speaker and my phone....but would love the dash to look complete. Anyone got one working or not?! Cheers Tony
PZG302
theres the retro radio mob in sydney that do the period looking stuff, I have their latest one for my charger. Can't remember the website off hand but search pentastar parts and restorations and then look through their store for radios and you will find it, they are the aussie distributors. GongZ
If money is no object (if only!), the best solution is to have the factory radio upgraded to AM/FM stereo. You can even add a concealed auxiliary input socket, Bluetooth music streaming, mobile phone integration and voice control. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVGvxitS4rI These guys (amongst others) in the USA can do it; http://www.randbvintageautoradio.com/ and this guy from Sydney on the AussieV8 forum was offering a similar service a couple of years ago (hopefully he still does); http://www.aussiev8.com.au/bodywork-styling-wiring-sound/63945-converting-you-am-radio-fm-aux-input.html This eBay ad will give you an idea of the cost; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Any-Classic-CAR-Radio-Converted-STEREO-FM-IPOD-MP3-Satellite-CD-Bluetooth-VIDEO-/121693705251 Add some covert speakers upgrades and its all good! gav240z

Interesting and I'd certainly consider it....but first need to get my hands on the old radio hardware! Hope someone can help me out, as I say working or not. Administrators gav240z Posted April 8, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted April 8, 2016 That's pretty cool indeed. If you decided to sacrifice the internals then maybe it doesn't matter what case you use? I'd feel a little bad scrapping the original electronics. www.240zrubberparts.com - has reproduction face plates and knobs etc.. So you may be able to send them to get used for a conversion to a modern style unit whilst retaining the original looking face. http://www.240zrubberparts.com/apps/webstore/products/show/5556500 Apparently the later 260z/280z/Fairlady Z radio's may line up with the earlier faceplate. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/53334-wtb-hitachi-radio/ TDoherty
Moderators PB260Z Posted April 9, 2016 Moderators Share Posted April 9, 2016 (edited) Hi I went for a compromise between original look and modern tech by using a Retrosound unit. Not to everyones taste but suits my car. Edited April 9, 2016 by PB260Z

PZG302
Retrosound was the mob I was thinking of. Have one with the valiant kit for my charger, check the website and there may also be a Datsun kit for the face plate and knobs.
Moderators PB260Z Posted April 10, 2016 Moderators Share Posted April 10, 2016 Had a feeling that Retrosound was the product you were reffering to. Mine is not the best match for a Z, it has too much chrome. (I got mine second hand for about 50% of retail) There is one that is black with black knobs that would be a better match. I am thinking that I will get some black knobs for mine. Cheers PB
Administrators gav240z Posted April 10, 2016 Author Administrators Share Posted April 10, 2016 As good as the retrosound unit is, it's the aesthetics of the original hitachi unit I love most. TDoherty and GongZ
