Finally, after months of drinking beer and looking at my 240 and then drinking some beer and looking at it, searching photos on the net, drinking some beer, reading the many great posts on here and drinking some beer – I finally start pulling down the old girl.  Even found a 2 cent coin in the first minutes of work – bonus!  Only issue is that since the last time I played with a car in a serious way, someone has installed a beer gut that gets in the road at times.  Ahhh well.

Hmmm, I can somewhat relate.

I am finding working under dashboards much harder than it was 30 years ago.

Cheers

Great post.

I am thinking that a hoist might be a more valuable addition to my shed than I ever thought before if for no other reason than I can put the car in the best position for me to work on it.

I am finding that once I attain a horizontal position on my trolley under the car, then I have much greater difficulty in returning to the vertical than I have ever experienced before. Beer seems to exacerbate the problem.

Good to hear that you are making the start Cliff. Keep it going and keep us posted. All the best to you.

A hoist is a great thing to have, it can be raised just enough so you can sit on your rolling seat to work comfortably underneath or high enough to stand up underneath although the DIY ones don't seem to go quite high enough if you are 6+ feet tall. Also useful when working outside the car on something like a bumper bar or changing wheels.

Yep hoist would be great but..........

It will be a slowish start for me as my business takes up so much of my time, but I will try and do a little bit regularly.

Do not be distracted about a hoist Cliff. I am sure that the forum is more excited about the fact that you have taken the leap into the adventure of refreshing your car and we all wish you well with it. It is truly a commitment that rarely goes to plan but there is a lot of empathy and support available on this forum.

Good luck with it all.

Yes, I guess that a lot of us started out with not much equipment at all, just a desire to save a Zed from the rust monster and finish with it in better condition than when we started. And look where we ended up, enough tools and equipment to overhaul a 747 plus a shiny Zed or two. Just keep in mind that a conventional hoist requires a high roof so if building a shed to accomodate the business, err hobby, plan accordingly.

Never a truer word spoken. Like many I started out borrowing tools from Dad, not sure they all got returned ::)  and today I have most of the tools I need.

But still no hoist - don't have the roof clearence  :(
