Colby Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Hi Guys, i have recently purchased a 76 260Z 2+2 and want to eventually get it registered, so i need to get a RWC for it. This model has air pipes for the exhaust and looks like it should have an air pump as well. The pipes for the exhaust has been cut off and welded up. Just looking at a lot of the other members cars with 260Z, I've noticed that alot of them have converted the flat top carbs to the 240Z carbs and no signs of emissions fitted to the engines. Theres no way i can do that to get the RWC? Or is it better for me to try to source the air pipes and an air pump? Thanks. Colby Quote
260DET Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Is that emissions stuff required for a RWC in Victoria? That may sound like a silly question but I don't know and of course it's best to make sure what is required. Quote
Linton Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) yes it does it must comply to adr specs. remove and make sure there is no visible sign of it and you will be ok ,or refit pipes and make it look like it is there, one or the other, garages these days would not have Co2 meters so they could not tell if it is working or not. it only when they find there is something half working it will be questioned. Colby Posted December 15, 2015 Author Posted December 15, 2015 Thanks for the advice Linton, i will try to source an early model exhaust, inlet and carb set up.because by having the air pipes blanked off looks a bit sus. And Richard- Technically if the car came out with the emissions in production it should be on or else its not roadworthy. i'm suprised so much emission stuff on a 76 car ( air pipes and air pump, EGR) Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted December 15, 2015 Administrators Posted December 15, 2015 Colby in the US they had an air pump pretty early on, 71 I think. In Australia it was the introduction of the 260z that saw that stuff added. It's true that most shops won't know the difference if everything looks correctly plumbed. Hence good idea to use standard air boxes etc.. Quote
Colby Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 Thanks for that gav240z, i guess i will be looking for an earlier model induction/ exhaust setup. Quote
260DET Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 OK, so no emissions testing or anything, just make it look like it's all there. Been there Quote
Colby Posted December 17, 2015 Author Posted December 17, 2015 (edited) Yeah Richard, i don't think they test it, but i hope i don't get one (tester) thats clued up on the old datsuns!! But i think most mechanics will accept it as an old car and propably be suprised that it has certain amount of emissions fitted. Edited December 17, 2015 by Colby Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted December 17, 2015 Moderators Posted December 17, 2015 I would make sure you have a charcoal canister and pcv, from my experience if they see both of those they will happy in most cases. Cheers PB Quote
Colby Posted December 17, 2015 Author Posted December 17, 2015 Thanks PB, yeah it has both the charcoal canister and pcv fitted, i think the PO had the air pump shit itself so it was removed and the air pipes blanked off. Quote
