Administrators gav240z Posted November 29, 2015 Administrators Posted November 29, 2015 Nice Fairlady Z, do you know if it's a Z-S or Z-L? 2.0ltr or 2.4ltr? Does it have the Rally Clock in it? Do you know Hung Vu in California? Welcome. Quote
theguppies Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Hello welcome to Viczcar. Base on the picture, it looks like Z-L cuz it has rubber on the bumper. I also own a couple Fairlady Z-L in California. Would love to see more Fairlady Z owners out there. Quote
Motorsport 007 Z Posted November 30, 2015 Author Posted November 30, 2015 this clock ? I wasnt aware that there was more then one model.. as far as I know it came with the flares, hl covers and rims you see on it..it even had some old school yellow foglights on it when we got it, or what was left of them. this whole car only has like 29k original kilometers on it too.. Motorsport 007 Z Posted November 30, 2015 Author Posted November 30, 2015 (edited) its the original short block as far I can tell tell we did an updated head on it when we got it..the original was in bad shape. Edited November 30, 2015 by Motorsport 007 Z Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 30, 2015 Administrators Posted November 30, 2015 Yes that is the Fairlady Z-L, with the Jeco Rally Clock, under your dash in the passenger footwell there should be a yellow box, that is the oscillator. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/12840-twin-knob-rally-clock-install-in-to-an-early-s30z/ I am guessing the clock has maybe stopped working at this stage? But if you want it restored I'd recommend Ron at Zclocks.com he's done about 3 of these clocks for me now. Does top quality work and I love these clocks. The Z-S had more basic trim options, the radio / antenna switch was no installed, the clock was the basic Jeco clock (non Rally Clock) and the bumpers didn't have the rubber trim as mentioned above, along with other subtle differences. Based on the extra delimiters in your Temp / Oil pressure gauge I'm guessing this car is 70 or 71? *Edit you said 71 in the first post. Do you have any photos of the fog lamps or what's left of them? Motorsport 007 Z Posted November 30, 2015 Author Posted November 30, 2015 (edited) this is what the car looked like the day it came out of the junkyard it was pulled out of.. a quick back story about the car is the car was owned by someone in the military.. he was stationed in Hawaii for several yrs with the car after bringing it over from Japan. From Hawaii it went to Southern CA to I think it was Camp Pendleton where it sat formany yrs until the owner died. The car just was left sitting on base, parked. After few yrs of not moving, the govt just had the car removed by a tow company, where it was taken to their yard. Someone saw the car a few days later on a pile of other cars getting ready to get crushed. He asked if he could buy the car as a whole and he had the foresight to buy it that day. This was in roughlyin July 2005. I saw the car advertised on the net one nite with a crappy little 1" picture, butcalled the guy that night and made the deal. He delivered the car to me in Tucson about amonth later. I got it running a few months later and then stored it away for a few yrs untilabout 2010, when after buy a few parts cars, decided to have a shop fix all the rust andpaint it for me. He had the car about a yr, and once I got it back, I started restoring some ofthe interior and putting the car back together slowly between other projects. I had bothbumpers rechromed in the process and bought NOS rubbers for them Edited November 30, 2015 by Motorsport 007 Z Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 30, 2015 Administrators Posted November 30, 2015 I recall seeing this car on Classiczcars.com - You can see the Fairlady Z-L foot rest also, we got that with our 260z's as a standard item. The car certainly looks nicer now than it did before. Quote
Motorsport 007 Z Posted November 30, 2015 Author Posted November 30, 2015 btw, who is Hung Vu and why should I maybe know him ? Quote
HS30-H Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 as far as I know it came with the flares, hl covers and rims you see on it.. As a Fairlady Z-L, this particular car would not have been supplied new with the overfenders already attached. They would have been purchased and added at a later date, either as a Nissan 'Sports Option' part or as an aftermarket copy. The headlamp covers could have been chosen as a showroom option at time of purchase, but many cars ended up getting them later. The wheels are an aftermarket accessory, added by a previous owner. Looks neat. What's the chassis number? (your front indicator repeaters are installed upside down) Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 30, 2015 Administrators Posted November 30, 2015 btw, who is Hung Vu and why should I maybe know him ? He has a couple of Fairlady Z's over in the US and he said there is a small community of Fairlady owners in the states, so I thought you might know him. I also asked him if he knew you when you posted on the forum but he said he didn't. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 30, 2015 Administrators Posted November 30, 2015 Hung put the current owner in touch with the seller of this Fairlady 240Z-L. http://petrolicious.com/articles/man-machine/this-nissan-fairlady-240z-l-is-a-rare-japanese-survivor We have very few Fairlady Z's in Australia but this was an example that came up for sale recently. https://picasaweb.google.com/107400787026175995661/HS30103407?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCNPj4YaDu_-IywE&feat=directlink Thought you might appreciate the reference photos of a very original example. Although the grille is AU market (not mesh like JDM) and the carbs look like English SU's and not the flat top hitachi's a 73 model would have had standard in Japan. Quote
Motorsport 007 Z Posted November 30, 2015 Author Posted November 30, 2015 those are cool links, thanks !! Quote
