reverendzed Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 In your first photo you have uncovered the double skin section of the seal (a real design flaw!) Just be aware that the original design had 2 layers of sheet metal at this section. Good luck with everything. Rev. Quote

If the original design had two layers of sheet metal, could this be what I'm ripping off! Hahaha x_x Quote
Zeddophile Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I have to go out and buy a wire brush for the pneumatic drill, so for now I've actually chiselled a little at the side and found bog or something covering the entire sill underneath and the front guards are absolutely not salvageable. Pics: http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v204/43/3/533789219/n533789219_436784_800.jpg http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v191/43/3/533789219/n533789219_436783_242.jpg http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v204/43/3/533789219/n533789219_436780_9320.jpg Should I just rip it all off completely? Seems like the right way to go about it. I wouldn't necessarily say that yet, until you post some photos - the bottom section of the front guard is a fairly simple repair to fab up. The sills are more complex, and to do the whole length you'd want a proper sheet folder, but they are also doable. Then again, you could get fibreglass gaurds to try and bring the weight down a bit! I wouldn't rip anything right off to start with, buy yourself the wire wheel, and dig in on both sides (passenger and driver) around the sill and work out whats factory and whats not. I'll have a bit more of a hunt through my photos and see if I can dig up a decent photo of my sills (I'm sure I have one). Quote
maddos Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 http://newcastlezeds.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1184661166/15#15 Here's a link which shows some pics of my sill removal. As you can see at the bottom edge I drilled out all the spot welds. How are your sills where the gaurds bolt on (can't view your pics for some reason) Quote

JP240z Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 farrrk i wouldn't even know where to start... i was lucky enough to buy a zed that had already had its rust professionally removed. this would have killed my spirit lol Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 20, 2008 Administrators Posted February 20, 2008 I wouldn't feel guilty about putting a V8 or other engine in this car. In fact this is the perfect car for modification Good luck with it. Definately learn to weld (I did) and you should be ok. The worst you can do is stuff it up. Just cut that section out and start again till you get it right. Quote
