Well hello everyone. I have just joined this club mainly because I am wanting to purchase a 260Z 2+2 and I hope I can get some help, tips and advice here and perhaps a couple of leads on any for sale.

First of all and this may sound silly but what is considered a reasonable price to pay for a Z in good condition? I have seen them advertised anywhere from 3 grand to 20 grand? and they all seem to be in the same all around condition.

I would prefer a manual but if I was to buy an auto and convert it is the diff a different ratio in a manual verses auto? and if so is it enough to cause me to have to change it as well?.

They seem to Have a bit of rust history any tips on where to look for it. Are parts easy to obtain for these cars?.

Sorry for all the questions on my first thread I am very genuine and would appreciate any help you guys my be able to give me.

Cheers Peter

$10-12k should get you a very clean 2+2.

look up carpoint.com.au . as there are half a dozen there. In my opinion the green (canberra car) 2+2 on carpoint is my pick of the bunch.

Hi Gonzo 240 thanks for the reply I have seen 2 cars on carsales.com one is the green car in canberra and the other is the blue one in Narellan and did like them both I also lean towards the Canberra car as well because it is a manual I wouldn't want the mags on it though as I want it to be totally original I had intended contacting him tomorrow and have a look at it. The price of these have sure gone up huh. once again your input is appreciated very much cheers. Peter

It really depends on what type of car you are after.

If its a every day driver, you should get one for $6-9k, for a weekend car that you want to cruise in you should look at the +$10k ones.

Also depends if you want a stock original or one with a RB conversion, etc.

There are some interesting ones on tradingpost.com.au for everyday drivers that have been there for a while. I would not be scared and offer a low price you may get one for quite a bit less than what they are asking.

Heaven knows why these classics do not get better money! >:(

They do command big money in Japan and the UK. Even in the US they are gaining traction as the early cars are very sought after.

I think the early Z is over shadowed in Australia by the early Rotories (Have you seen the value of these now?) and the early Aussie Muscle cars.

In particular the 432r (PS30-B) and 432 (PS30) with the S20 engine would probably get at least 60K AU+ or more. Also the HS30-H Fairlady 240zg also commands high prices.

Its just here in Aus where they are undervalued. However in recent years there has been an increase and they won't go down in value anything soon.

i sure can vouch for the Gav on the rotaries. they did sky rocket in last 3 years expecialy the smaller ones. even the non rotaries fetch good money these days

i had a 77 1600 capella with rx2 rear lights was 4cyl Auto. fairly clean car. cost me all up $500 on the road. had it for 6 months and sold it for $1700 i thought i did good. as it was one of the more expensive ones advertised. though now same car in lot crapier condition fetches 5-6k and the rx versions gone through the roof. if i only held it for 3 more years  :'(

thats why im still sitting on my 74 RX4 coupe for a while longer before i load her off.

s30 Z will go up in price it just takes time in laid back OZ. i got my 260z 2+2 insured for 16k without them even looking at it. so it gives you bit of a guideline what they worth and what insurance is happy to cover it for.

i had a look at the carsales too. that green does look nice. though originaly from Tasi.

also that blue moded 240z with L20 turbo. asking price 25K

good luck with the hunt.

like someone said, offer bit less they may be bit desperate to sell if being for sale too long you never know.

I actually saw the green car in Tasmania at Symmons Plains Race Track (not racing it the car was there to try and sell it) when I was down there doing a rendition of the  Targa Tasmania with the NDSOC before he took it upto Canberra, apart from the the mag wheels not being original it was a really clean car as I remember and I would say a good purchase. As far as price in concerned don't be surprised if S30 Zeds are all around $20k soon they are currently the cheapest and best classic you can buy bang for buck!

You still on the hunt?

This one is in Barooga (Vic/NSW border) and has been advertised for quite a while. I live 30 mins away and have never seen it on the roads so it probably has been garaged for a long time. The least you can do is give him a call and make an offer.

have not had a chance to get back on here for awhile but first of all thankyou all for the help you have given me. Lynton I was very interested to hear the green one in Canberra was forsale in tassie. Chris240 thanks for your offer to look at the car for me but  as i live in Canberra I have been out and looked at the car and have also driven it it certainly is a good looking beast he said it was resprayed about 9 odd years ago WE are at the $ amount for the car now so will keep you all informed I am sure i will own it by the end of the week. Is the a Canberra Z club I can join my first to do would be to meet other Z owners and learn more about them. One of my concerns with the car is the gear leaver is sloppy and does not have a nice feel to it, are these boxes same as the 1600 as they got a bit sloppy with use there does not appear to be any noises in it though.Once again thankyou to everyone hear for your help and I am sorry for being slow in replying.Cheers  Peter

Hope you end up with it soon! Good Zeds are worth snapping up straight away! With the gear shifter, the plastic bushes might be worn/broken or even missing! Remove the shifter boot and rubber boot on the g/box and have a look with a torch. Or you can remove whats left and replace it with a metal bushing...
