blu260z Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Hey guys ripping the head off the l26 today. But I noticed the camshaft was stamped C2. I have heard before the c grind was a nismo option and they used the C grind cams to finish off the last of the 260z production blah blah blah. But I have done some research and cant find anything on a C2 grind cam. If anybody has some info please let me know. Thanks Quote

You gain 8 on the duration and loose lift on the intake. d3c0y Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Taken from Hybridz: "The "C" cam is the stock camshaft in the US Spec 260Z. For some reason its got this mythical reputation as something special. It was sold by Nissan Comp as part number 13001-N3626 generally for ignorant guys cheating in ITS. The less ignorant would just pull the cam and rockers out of a junkyard 260Z for about $100 less then what Comp was charging for the N3626 cam. But that quickly became protest bait because all the other Z guys knew about it, so if you're 240Z was a bit faster then someone else the first thing asked in impound was to have the valve cover removed.The performance gain for a street engine is not worth the expense or effort. For a race engine, other then a 2.6L running in ITS, its really not worth the expense or effort. In both cases you can get a much better cam for the same money. " Quote

I am looking at changing it out for a CrowCam medium performance cam, Or atleast something of similar specs. Is there any brands you guys would recomend? Looking for something hot for the street but not racespec. Quote
d3c0y Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 You honestly want to get at least a 74 degree, even they they are all over by 6500rpm give or take a bit. It depends who you ask when it comes to cams. There is a guy down in VIC who is apparently the guy to go to but his name escapes me right now. Lurch will know who i'm talking about, either that or talk to LCR. Quote

Enzo Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I see that there is recommended valve spring to go with the cam. Don't forget to use a new set of rockers or you will wear the cam quickly. Also use a good ZDDP additive for run-in. Just a few thoughts. David Quote
blu260z Posted August 12, 2015 Author Posted August 12, 2015 I was told by camtech that I can use my same rockers, aslong as the cam or rockers don't have signs of serious wear. He said also unless I am racing the factory valve springs are fine aswell Quote
Enzo Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 It's not a case of serious wear, it's any wear. As the original rockers mate to the original cam they create a matched wear pattern. When you change the camshaft, the wear pattern on the rockers gets transferred to the new cam. If you are lucky the wear will be negligible. Japanese steel is excellent quality. But you have to remember that the cams and rockers are 35-40 years old if they have not been replaced and that makes them an unknown quality. I always replace rockers with a new cam. But that's me. My stock L24 has some very serious wear on the camshaft lobes from previous owner (must have over tightened valves I guess) and thus needs replacment. As per attached image the L26 C grind cam has an additional 8 degrees of intake/exhaust duration compared to the L24 A grind cam.
