oldmates260z Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 I have some 6.5" wheels and want to put the widest tyre on them that I can, but am concerned that there may be something detrimental if I go too wide. The following link recommends 195/60/R15 or 205/60/R15 with a maximum of 215/60/R15 : http://www.tyresizecalculator.com/tyre-wheel-calculators/tyre-size-for-rim-size-width-calculator Does anyone know anything wrong with fitting the 215's? Also any comments on the Bridgestone Supercat or Turanza tyres? Quote
dat2kman Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 It'll be tall, and baggy, will need highish pressures to car from falling over. Was very fashionable in the 1960's with the hotrod set! Go for a 205/50 or 60 series. Quote
oldmates260z Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 Thanks Jason, thought that would be the case Quote
Linton Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 i Have 225 60 on mine looks ok me, speedo is accurate Quote
oldmates260z Posted August 8, 2015 Author Posted August 8, 2015 i Have 225 60 on mine looks ok me, speedo is accurate Would like to see some shots of these? That it a very wide tyre for 6.5" wide rim Quote
Linton Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 sorry my mistake they are 7" rim, I went and had another look. Quote
Sirpent Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 A bit left of center to this topic, however a great resource for anyone thinking about tyre / rim combo sizes and want to get an idea of what they will look like on an S30. Stevo_122 Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Excellent link Sirpent, many thanks for posting I have a very stock 260 2+2 and am in the process of giving it a birthday. Having the photos and the sizes to match simplify things a great deal. Cheers w Quote
oldmates260z Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 Is anyone running 50 series tyres on 15" rims? My current Zed wheels are 15" x 7" currently fitted with some old 215/60/R15 Now looking at either 205/55/R15 or 205/50/R15 in Bridgestone RE002 or RE003 Am concerned the 50 series may look a bit odd and have a too hard a ride Quote
PZG302 Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I ran 50 series Toyo Ta1 tyres on 15x7 rims, but for hill climbs and wets, so no concerns for comfort. On my car they looked a bit odd, because I normally ran 18x8" rims with 240/640/18 slicks. A 50 series tyre won't increase ride harshness that much compared to a 30 or 45 series tyre oldmates260z 1 Quote
dat2kman Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 (edited) I have some 225/50x15's n 15x8 rims, fit well. Also some 205/50x15 A 205/55x15 would be a good fit, on your 1x7" rims would not look "odd" and fill the arch out same as the riginal 195/60x14 would have. The slightly higer 55% sdewall, will give a little mor comfort on ride. Edited November 7, 2015 by dat2kman oldmates260z 1 Quote
oldmates260z Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 Thanks Jason, the car is already lowered and I am thinking the lower profile will just drop it down a tad too much. The 215/60/R15 really fill out the arches and only just miss the guard which is why I thought the 50's or 55's would be OK. I have the 205/55/R15 RE003 on the Sports (15x6.5) and they are great but can only get RE002 in the 50 profile which is what I was think for the Zed Quote
dat2kman Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Thats a pic f the Sports rims on the Z? Looks "full" e not too gappy around the arch. A 55 aspect will be a mre conmfy ride, maybe another manfavcturer? oldmates260z 1 Quote
oldmates260z Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 No , these are the Zed wheels....15x7 with 215/60/R15 Maybe the RE002 on 50's Quote
Ahoysandy Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 i recently got 15x6.5 +13 SSR longchampsended up fitting a set of 235/50R15, Toyo R888's because that was the closest size i could find!!they look really aggressive. I'm not too sure how they handle yet. Quote
dat2kman Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 What tyre shop was that, that thought a 235/50 on a 6.5" wide rim, was a safe fitment? 5/50 sure, but 235! Quote
Ahoysandy Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 What tyre shop was that, that thought a 235/50 on a 6.5" wide rim, was a safe fitment? 5/50 sure, but 235! Blair's tyres in sydney. that was the only shop that i could get the R888's in 50r15 sizes. initially i was after 225, but they only could get 235... lol Quote
