53-681 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Good morning guys, I've had my Malvern Star Oppy C5 stolen from me last night. It was left in the communal bike shed of my apartment complex and when I approached the shed this morning, I noticed that the door lock had been force broken and that the bicycle my father had gifted to me was lost. Bicycle was purchased mid 2013, is black and red in color and cost $1200. If you happen to hear anything out there, could you please let me know? This is exactly what the bike looks like. Cheers. luvemfast Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 If it's from a communal bike shed, provided from complex, it should be covered under their insurance! Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 5, 2015 Administrators Posted February 5, 2015 Sorry to hear it was stolen mate. When I lived in Dublin and first starting working at Google I got a Google branded bike. Unfortunately everywhere I rode little "Knackers" would ask me where I got my "GOOOGUL BOIKE". Knackers = https://www.google.com.au/search?q=Dublin+Knackers&safe=off&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=bADUVNvbHsbsmAXmj4GAAg&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1741&bih=836 Well once morning I came out to find my bike scratched, someone was trying to cut the lock on it. I kept it in the my apartment after that for a few weeks, but had a friend stay over (from Australia) and having only a 1 bed apartment he was sleeping in the living room. So I once again put my bike in the communal lock up area. Well literally within 2 days someone had stolen it. Scum.... My current bicycle is a few years old and the gear set is worn out on it, I'll eventually get a nice new bike like you had, but for now I know it's only worth a couple of hundred bucks as it is and I at least don't have to worry about someone relieving me of ownership of it. Not sure if that makes you feel any better, but I know how it feels. Scummy bastards! Quote
53-681 Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 Yeah it definitely isn't the best feeling in the world.. I've emailed the real estate agent and am waiting for a response on insurance. I will file a police report during lunch hopefully and see what happens. Thanks a lot guys :-) Quote
dat240z Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 I hope the front wheel falls off it when the thieving turds are riding it down a hill at full speed!! I absolutely loathe thieves. And yeah, your body corp insurance should cover it, doesn't replace ur old man giving it tho. Quote
53-681 Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 Email from real estate agent: Hi Sam, It is the tenants responsibility to have insurance on their belongings. Unfortunately the building insurance does not cover contents insurance for tenants. Hopefully it turns up or the police find some evidence. Thank you Quote
my_mad_z Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Sorry to hear that Sam, hope you get your bike back! Unfortunately I think your real estate agent is correct; they generally only cover building; if they cover contents, it will only be minimal cover that include blinds/carpet/etc. Believe me I know how you feel. Some low life scum bag decided to rob my house 4 years ago - took my safe, laptops, jewellery, cameras, etc... the safe had my Z keys, both sets of keys to my wife's brand new car, jewellery, and just over $23k cash.... all up got done over close to $50k by the time you add everything up.... only got $12k from insurance They caught him - the moron was stupid enough to leave a finger print behind... he got linked to doing over 8 houses and this low life scum bag walked out of court without doing time... how is that justice??? The law is here to protect the criminals! Didn't get anything back, all I wanted back were my dad's belongings that I was given after he passed away - can't replace sentimental items. Quote
PZG302 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Sam, a couple of things: 1. do you have contents insurance for your stuff? If so first point of call is them. You still may not be covered for the loss under contents as it was kept in a communal area of the units. 2. Have a chat with the onsite manager of the complex if there is one, or if there is a owner occupier there, get the management details off them. The real estate agent will no 3/5th of 7/8th of fuck all about what is covered and what is not under the body corporate. All the real estate agent does is take your money for the rent, dick you around in regard to notices for inspections, not get back to you if you a have a problem and then dick the owner around by paying them your rent late and not notifying the owners of any dramas you have with the unit. What Simon said, the body corporate will have insurance for this, they will be claiming on it to replace the lock and any damage to the cage, your loss and anyone else's will also go on this claim. That's what people pay the corporate fees for, amongst other things. As the bike is kept in effectively common property the body corporate are responsible for it if you are not allowed to keep it in your unit because of the body corporate rules. Chase up the body corporate itself, not the real estate agent. Oh and if you the arse hole that did this, I know people who know people....... Quote
chris240 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 put a posting on the BNA forums.. there is a section for stolen bikes. Quote
53-681 Posted February 6, 2015 Author Posted February 6, 2015 Thank you so much guys. site manager and body corporate confirm there is no content insurance with complex communal facilities. It's times like these I appreciate our ancient ancestors laws whereby robbers had their hands cut or deported from the continent. There's no such thing or person as Robin Hood; there is only the man who is robin-the-hood. I've produced a wanted/stolen poster offering a reward and stuck a couple at Vic Garden shopping center. I'll check BNA forums out as well thank you so much! Quote
silvaghost23 Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 Hate thieves!! They don't deserve to be on the planet! Just a thought. Its someone that you see regularly, may or may not greet, that sees you put it in that communal area. They may even be watching from a distance or in one of the other apartments... Set up a video camera from your apartment on the bike area and try again. My 2cents. Quote
