Hi All

whilst I thought everything with the z was almost sorted I have noticed a few spots of oil under it the last few times I have fired it up.....It sat for 5 years being turned over every month or so. Just got under it now and it seams to be coming from the bell housing which Im gutted about because im not sure if i can drop a gearbox out with it sitting on car stands.....anyone done this themselves without a hoist? would really like to have a crack myself using the manual but not sure if its something I should tackle on my own:) any advice or idea of cost to get a mech to do it? im thinking because you need to drop the gearbox clutch and exhaust out it would be costly in labour.........dammit! This is the tight arse in me but could I wait until the clutch needs to be done as I was going to get a lightened flywheel at the same time.....

Cheers!

I have done mine a couple of times with the car on stands, you don't need a hoist. could also be the rocker cover leaking at the back and running down as well so have a feel around the back of the head for oil

Spots are just Horsepower Sweat, i can drop a gearbox in 40 Minutes on stands as i had heaps of practice on Dale's 240Z. I have access to a hoist if you feel like crusing up here and we could pop in a new clutch at the same time. I'll give you Auszcar member rates.

There'll probably be a little groove worn in the crank from having a seal rubbing on it for 40yrs. Trim some gasket paper to the same shape as the seal, push it in first then fit the seal. It'll now seat a little further out on an unworn part of the crank and should seal up much better.

That is an awesome old style tip. Heaps cheaper than go through all the effort and expense required to machine it. Haven't heard that trick talked of for some time.

Yeah I thought so:) bit more than a cruise:) Im now a little confused as it may be coming from oil pan.........will have to get right under clean it all and see where its appears again..............that seal paper is a brilliant idea!
