jezzza Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Hey guys, I am planning to start working on my car within the next few months (have to finish house renovations first!) Before I go ahead and purchase fender flares, I wanted to know if anyone has got their cars registered with cut fenders and flares I was tossing up whether to run flares, or just run wider wheels with stretched tyres on stock rolled guards Thanks Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted September 2, 2014 Moderators Posted September 2, 2014 Hi Jezza You should probably put the question the rego authorities over West. They will want to know in addition to rim and tyre size, the impact on the wheel track of the car. FWIW - The national guidelines (VSB14) do not allow for a rim any greater than 30% wider than the originals. Cheers PB Quote
jezzza Posted September 5, 2014 Author Posted September 5, 2014 Thanks I am more concerned about cutting fenders The car will be registered without flares, and stock wheels Then I will do the flares (and if legal, cut fenders) If I get yellowed for wheels, I can simply take them off and re-register.. but with cut fenders, I may not be able to register it again Quote
dat2kman Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 This fascination with destroying original bodywork, fitting items, to then fit oversize geometry unfriendly size whhels/tyres, is just driving up the value of unmolested cars! That said, what the inspectors and engineers frown upon, ( or even defect) are potential sharp edges, of possible, a little beaten lip, or draw filed edge to single sheet steel on fronts, and on rears, a welded in section or arc, joining the inner to outer sheet steel. The dodgy way is to leave sharp shards and multi cuts bent over, or bits of filler steel Tek screwed on rears. That is Drifter rubbish. Our Z 's are better than that. Quote
Mike260LW Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Jeez Jason, did you forget to take your anti-grumpy pills today! But I agree. To do a good job on the rear arches, they need to be half-tubbed and re-lipped. Quote
dat2kman Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Nah Mike, Everytime one car gets cut up in the rear, just makes yours and mine more rarer! Quote
zzzzed Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Yeh I cut mine. But I don't care, u will never sell it because I love it But then I have an in molested 2 seater as well. Quote
chartoo Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Isn't there precedent with the 240zg model for rego purposes. How did their wheel weeks or fenders look under the flares ? Quote
