If people want LD28 cranks - I can probably source some. Price is going to probably be higher than $650 when you factor in shipping from Japan though.

NZ is probably cheapest place to get them, but need a contact to help on that side - which I don't have yet.

There's a few LD28s for sale in NZ at the moment.

It's just getting them here that's difficult!

I'd like to get it running and see how it goes. I may sell the crank later on but I'll be getting both LD28 cranks crack tested, inspected with full reports.

Does anyone know how the mounts compare to S30? I have a spare shell I can fit it into.

I made a split second decision and decided to start pulling this down. I did crank it over trying to get it to run briefly but due to lack of talent and the fact it was snowing I gave up. It spun very freely and sounded like it wanted to run but alas that was the moment I decided to tear down. So far I have noticed a few interesting things,

1) It has a stumpy oil pump drive like the type commonly used with DIS conversions,

2) Two brackets on the bottom of the block that attach to the gearbox, I assume for the increased torque? see pic.

3) The LD28 crankshaft appears to be in excellent condition, all bearing shells had little to no wear marks! We will see when I get the cranks get checked. see pic.

4) The main caps bolts had '#12' on the heads, I don't recall seeing that on the regular L28, are they higher tensile?

5) The LD28 block looks almost the same internally as my spare L28, it's clearanced in a few spots much the same as stroker conversions.

6) The rods appear at first glance to be very similar to standard L series rods, I'm interested to see what they weigh once I get them out. I'll do the same with the valve train, I've always heard that the LD stuff is MUCH heavier to cope with the rigors of Diesel operation. Guess we will see if this is actually the case.

Thanks to Anth for helping me out with the pickup, it was nice to swap some stories and see some great old school cars. Cheers, Mate.
