andyk_79 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Interesting project! Less common conversion but hard to argue with the results: http://lainefamily.com/240Z_V8_Conversion.htm Quote
Scoota G Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 I checked out this page while doing my 302 V8 conversion. I like the mid mount crossmember idea. I heard the guy makes crossmembers to order. Has a sexy induction setup too. Quote
d3c0y Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Tidy conversion. What is it worth for a fresh 302 installed do you think scooter? How much power do they make? Quote
andyk_79 Posted July 2, 2014 Author Posted July 2, 2014 Did you do a build thread on this Scoota ? I had a quick look through but didn't see. I'm interested as well - the weight and where it can be sat in the engine bay make it an attractive proposition to my mind - I'm surprised there's not more based on this but I guess the popularity of the chev engines in the USA has meant there are a lot more after-market bolt ins available to do chev conversions Quote
Scoota G Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Tidy conversion. What is it worth for a fresh 302 installed do you think scooter? How much power do they make? I would say you would want to spend at least 6k on an engine and then another 4-5k on an install. Sump, exhaust, tailshaft, transmission crossmember and front engine plate all have to be custom made. A stock 302 Cleveland will make the same power as an L28 but a bunch more torque. Spend 6 grand on one and you'll get something upwards of 400hp, for 12 grand you would be around the 500hp mark which would require a diff conversion and a strengthened chassis. The first engine combo i had in made 157 RWHP and was good for a mid 13 second quarter. I have installed a stand in engine with more internal mods that is a lot stronger, i did this to pull the block out that it was engineered with to build a 393 stroker that is Nitrous capable. My business page is below. https://www.facebook.com/StreetWeaponRestorations I will see if i can get the new engine combo on the dyno in the next few weeks and see what it's pulling, fuel economy is around 25 litres per 100 Kilometers city cycle with an auto (same as a H2 Hummer ) Quote
d3c0y Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 The conversion makes a lot of sense with those numbers. Quote
Scoota G Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 It varies a little too depending what accessories you run on your engine and the type of transmission you run. The C4 Auto hooked up very easily and the shifter had only two small modifications to enable it to work. A manual would be considerably more expensive. My Zed runs mid 13's because it will top out at 185 KPH. Quote
andyk_79 Posted July 3, 2014 Author Posted July 3, 2014 Thanks Scoota. I realised how much of an idiot I am when I took a look at that build thread and realised i have read bits of it before! It didn't sink in at the time that it wasn't a Chev V8 you had done! Quote
260DET Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Why is the Chev more popular, are there any particular weak points with the Ford? Quote
chris240 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Shhhheeeeezus.....how nice is that engine bay. Hes made some valid points in his brief write-up. I like it. Quote

Patch Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Hot rod done a good test and write up in 2009, here is their report. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/engine/hrdp_1001_muscle_car_engine_shootout/viewall.html Quote

I put a paddock spec 302 in mine and caned it for 15000 kays. Chev conversions are more popular because some smart bunny designed a kit for it. I have the book at home. Quote

Having been for a run in Scoota's "paddock spec" 302 powered Z, I can confidently say it is FUN Looking forward to when the new motor is finished. Quote
