MR260 Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Is a front strut brace going to make any noticeable difference to my 260z for road use? Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 12, 2007 Administrators Posted November 12, 2007 Probably not for road use as much. I guess it depends on how you drive your Z. It will reduce body roll around fast corners. Sulio (member: toecutter) seems to think he noticed a huge difference when he installed a set on his Z a while ago. Quote
aegean Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 I fitted one to a convertible (Not a Nissan) and it did tighten up things like scuttle shake and improve cornering, but not so sure it would have too much impact on a coupe. Quote
zedevan Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 i had only a front one on for a couple of weeks and in that time my car understeered pretty badly a couple of times, i'm not sure if this is just coincidental or not, the rear one stops a few squeaks and rattles from the interiour panels which isn't a bad thing. to get the maximum effect you really need to get one of the triangular front ones...i decided to just get pretty looking ones lol Quote
620Z Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 You may not physically notice the difference. But rest assured it will be doing something to tighten up the car. Quote
sco_aus Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 yeh it made a massive difference when i did both on mine, but it did understeer a little more, but i adjusted the sway bars and it was all good. You kinda need adjustable ones to do it though Quote
Scando Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 I can't really feel any difference whether mine is on or off. It does seem to make a marginal difference to my laps times though. Maybe 1-2 tenths of a second over a 1 minute lap. Quote
sco_aus Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Does yours have any othe structural bracing though? When I first put mine in, all i had was Lovell springs and whiteline swaybars, so you really could feel the difference. Quote
Scando Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Yeah, mine has a full cage, that made a HUGE difference. I guess strut braces would make more difference with no cage. I still expected the front brace to make a reasonable difference since the cage only goes as far forward as the dash and there's no other bracing in the front of the car. Was kinda disapointed when it didn't do much. Quote
Hunter Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 I Drive my to work on one of the Targa Tasmania Stages. I know this is not a ZED but I put a strut bar in my Nissan X-Trail. I noticed a difference as soon as I put the Strut bar in. I drove from the workshop at work along a rough gravel road. Noticed that the suspension was working harder already. I did not know the body flexed that much. As for cornering etc. MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE. I do the 30km stretch to work in my 300ZX in 12.5mins and it takes about 13 to 15mins in my X-Trail depending on traffic. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 11, 2008 Moderators Posted May 11, 2008 I only noticed a big difference around the track. Much better turn in and felt more positive....specially at Sandown; left hander before main straight. Quote
Hunter Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 YEAH... THE ROAD TO WORK HAS VERY SHARP CORNERS, ROUGH ROAD, BUMPS,UP HILLS AND DOWN HILLS. SO PROBABLY GIVE THE SUSPENSION A BETTER WORK OUT THAN MOST SMOOTH RACETRACKS. AND I DRIVE IT LIKE I STOLE IT ALL THE WAY. Quote
