240Z / 260 blinker switch

Hi Folks.

 

Have gone one particular electrical gremlin in the Brown Hornet, that is the Blinker switch only works very very sporadically on the left side and not at all on the right side. This is a 260Z switch, and the one before this (the original) was the correct 240Z switch and that was also useless.

 

Has anyone actually rebuilt one of these? I am thinking its only a worn terminal or similar inside the little switch but I am not sure so wondered if anyone has done this little fix?

 

Similarly, if there are any working 240Z blinker switches looking for homes, the Brown Hornet is shouting out for one!

Have you tried giving it a little extra "umph" when switching it on? I know mine needs a firm movement to make it work.

I think the contacts might just be caked up with gunk and just needs cleaning. Check this thread out:

Its a Datsun Compe steering wheel, so stock yes (I guess). I did try to give it a little extra muscle, have wiggled and jiggled it and all sorts but it just has stopped working. I will have a look at that thread and see if I can't get it working again.

I'm going to suggest that the switch is actually broken inside. Pita as most know, was there a thread where someone actually found a replacement? I actually contemplated buying one from the states just for the inner gizzards.

So if ypu have a 260z one on the car and you mentioned it used to have a 240z one - why not pull the 240z one apart, clean it up, check the contacts rebuild it reassemble test.

 

This what I have done on both of mine and they now work great.

you are SO practical Mike, but the problem with that excellent idea is that my 240Z one is down at James shed (also not working) and the 260Z is dying on the car. I do intend to try to putt apart and clean etc. Out of interest, what is the best method to clean these terminals and protect them? Somehow I think I remember reading that veseline is good for terminal lubrication, but if someone else has any clues, please let me know.
