G Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Has anyone got a link or info regarding how to identify the Nismo "Option" 5 speeds which were available? Can they be identified visually? I know that some were dog-leg first, whilst I think others were not. Any help appreciated.. Cheers Quote
dat2kman Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 No written info, just part numbers and the various ratios they were. Why you want to know? Quote
d3c0y Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 If you are planning on buy one, your chances are slim to none. Quote
NZeder Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 The ones I have seen all have a flange fitting at the rear not the spline yoke fitting. But those are 240rs type option boxes that I have seen Quote
G Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 Went to look at a car which I was told had a works gearbox and numerous spares. They weren't works boxes and there was nothing really special about the spares. End of story really. Wish it would've turned out more positively! Quote
bluerat Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Bugger, gotta hate it when that happens, If your serious, there is one 3 minutes walk away in my 1600, or a genuine x-works Option 1 10 minutes drive away, plus another 2 in the same shed. They used to be everywhere down here in the 90's. They are next to useless in a torque monster Zed unless your putting a 78 degree cam in a L24 with a 3.3 diff.....but they are magic behind a 76 degree cammed L20 with a 4.8 in a 1600! Quote
lampy Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Wish i could find a option 3 for my 1600. Hard to get a box with a 1:1 1st gear for a high rpm 4 cylinder Quote
dat2kman Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Hodgo, can you possibly message me a decent high res scan of the page showing the pictures of the gears and their corresponding ratios/tooth counts, thanks. Also, What is the shift pattern on your various option boxes? Have heard various, depending on wether it was a proper factory box, or, some XXX company gearbox modifier, ie Albin/Holinger/etc First to left then either up or down,,, or first to far right then up,?? Gears 2-3-4-5 always in the H pattern I have some internal pics of the Holinger version that is in the Y, bit odd, it is full synchro on first, which is where fith would normally be, ( reverse is same position) but it has dog engagement on 2.3.4&5, in place of synchros, tooth count is odd too, it's a combo of Opt2 and Opt 1, George stipulated to Holinger, exactly what he wanted! bluerat Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 All the one's I've seen are the same as the Stanza 5 speed, ie rev where 1st is, 1st where 2nd normally is and so on. Doddy had an Option 3 in the ex Portman Bluebird and even with a 5.1 it took some serious clutch action to get it off the line...but zippity doo dar after that!! My understanding the only difference between the works ones were extra little holes and slot's in the housing to get a screw driver in there if it jam's in gear. Mazda rotary C/R box's were like yours Jase, 1st where 5th normally is then 2nd to 5th in the 'H'..but you probably knew that!! I cant remember the brand. Lampy look into a 200sx etc etc etc 6 speed, if you get the right one they have a 1-1 5th, but unless it's the Nismo one the rest of the ratio's aren't spot on for a 4 cyl. Quote
NZeder Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 There is guy here in nz that a dogleg box ie R-2-4 1-3-5 internals are holinger dog engagement. It has a 1:1 5th and was made from an original option 1 box I was told. Now it is the selectors that are special as Rev and 1st are in the back of the box where rev and 5th normally are. I would love that H of 2 3 4 and 5 for a track car as I got used to driving with that pattern when I owned my Datsun 710 aka 160Jsss mk1 which had a dog leg 5 speed standard. Quote
