Pedro Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Hi all, my indicators randomly died on me on the weekend. i checked the fuse (fine) and replaced anyway and this didn't help. when flicking on left or right there is no ticking noise, no green arrows lighting on the dash. i replaced a flasher unit a while back so im doubting its that. Everything else works perfectly on the stalk (lights, wipers, dash lights etc etc). I was thinking simply taking it off, cleaning it all and putting it back on. Is there is quick 3 step process (or soemthing) to identify what might be wrong? Cheers Peter Quote
Agno Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Sounds like you just need to take apart your indicator stalk and clean/re-grease all the contacts and points. I had the same dramas and that is what fixed mine Quote
MaygZ Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I wouldn't assume the flasher can is working. 3 Step Process:- 1. Check the flasher can with a testlight to see if it is getting power? (Don't forget that the can has 2 power supplies. If YES, then a new can is required. If NO, then .... 2. Check the indicator power to the stalk. If YES, check power coming from the stalk but probably stalk needs work. If NO, then .... 3. Follow the power wire back through the loom, checking at each join, check both sides of the fusebox. You will eventually get your testlight to fire up. Then work back towards the globes replacing/repairing as you go until your test light fires up. I haven't done this on mine, so the above relies on the stalk being positively powered. If the stalk switch provides the earth: 1. ensure the stalk is earthed by temporarily providing an effective earth (another wire properly earthed hooked in). If work YES, service stalk and ensure permanently effective earth - retest. If work NO, then .... 2. earth negative side of flasher can. If work YES, service stalk and retest. If work NO, then .... 3. Replace flasher can and retest. If work YES, service stalk and retest. If work NO, then ..... 4. test both sides of the fuse box and replace fuses (again) if required. If work YES, service stalk and retest. If work NO .... 5. Check your globes (unlikely this is the issue, but if a couple went at the same time due to water or heat, there may not be enough load on the circuit to activate the can - unlikely but possible) If work YES, then service stalk and retest. If work NO, then .... 6. Take vehicle to auto elec or sell to me very cheaply. MaygZ Quote
benny Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Also check and clean the two large plug sets that run along the tunnel near the heater-box. These corrode over time causing the indicators to stop working. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted October 8, 2013 Moderators Posted October 8, 2013 Thoroughly check all the globes/holders for broken filaments and corrosion. I know with the zed indicators if there are any issues with the globes, it screws around with all of the indicators. Quote
lightmaster240z Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I had the same problem. I end up get a auto elec to fix it for $60.00 faster than me doing it Quote
Pedro Posted October 15, 2013 Author Posted October 15, 2013 zedman. i think you are on this one. I'm thinking thats the issue. i just need to get to an auto store to get some new globes and polish the points where they meet the sockets. Quote
