1600dave Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I know its not a 240/260 No, its even better Few quick questions - Was the engine together with the current parts at some point ? Do you know if the dellortos were tuned for this engine ? Its not just a pile of parts that have never been assembled ? Is the rollcage steel or alluminium ? Bolt-in or weld-in ? Photo's of the diff / interior ? "Custom" 5 speed - custom as in it is a 5 speed in a car that only had a 4 speed, or do you think there is something "special" about the box (close ratio / etc ) ? How soon is "asap" for it to be gone ? Quote
dat2kman Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Dont worry about lack of or missing logbooks, that number on the sticker on the roll cage is the logbook number. A future owner can trot into CAMS office quote the number, and pay for a replacement logbook. Then its a matter of tranfpsferring ownership of lgbook, that way car can be run with the current as fitted cage, even if alloy. Easy to weld tags to current cage to tie it into upper car structure. Be interesting to find out previos owners as per logbook??? Quote
YellowRX Posted August 31, 2013 Author Posted August 31, 2013 1600dave to answer some of your questions yes the engine was complete and the head and carbs were pulled down for inspection. The bores looks good but of coarse due to being a raced motor the tolerances would be very tight so a hone and deck on the block would be ideal before a reassembly. At the moment the block is in the car and the head and carbs are in one piece. The carbs were tuned for this motor and raced with them. The rollcage is a bolt in aluminium cage with a cams log number. Mounts down to six points. The back two sections mounts to the rear parcel shelf and have a thick alloy sheet across the whole rear parcel shelf. The cage is surrounded with cage padding. As far as the box and diff are concerned, i was told the previous owner was told "they had something done to them" but he could not confirm exact details when i took possession. Its def a five speed and gears feel tight but thats all i can say. I will try and take some more pics today. The car needs to go ASAP as in yesterday so if no interest here i will list it on ebay for a 3 day auction with starting bid at 1500. I think based on parts alone this price is fair Quote
dat2kman Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Whack up some pics! I'd be interested but gee, from Melb to Brisb, a bit of a trip! The usual car carriers do not like non running stuff. Dave 1600 you have first shot! ( get it, go on, you know you want it!!) Yellow RX , what is the logbook number on roll cage sticker? Vxxxx? I can get info on it from cams database. Quote
YellowRX Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 Ill put up some pics today Log No. V7860 Quote

YellowRX Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 Now listed on evilbay, highest bidder gets it http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-1600-Ex-Hill-Climb-Rally-Race-Car-/130980459129?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item1e7f0b3279&_uhb=1 Pics updated Quote
1600dave Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Nope, I'm out, mainly due to timing. Wouldn't be able to make the trip down for a few weeks. Sounds quite cheap for a log-booked 1600. Quote
YellowRX Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 No probs dave. If not sold by then you will be the first to know Quote
dat2kman Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Car was first CAMS logbooked in 1990, and then again in 1991' it ran at some club level sprints and various hillclimbs in Victoria. Original name in logbook is a Marcel Toonen Les Collins may have sold him a few items for this car Car has had not a lot of use. The Ebay ad has now been sighted by the wider Australian rallying community, suspect it will get a bit of interest! Quote
YellowRX Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 Thanks dat2kman That info is great Quote
dat2kman Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 With some 11 hours to go, bidding is at $3900 Turns out Les Collins /Dateally did rhe head, back in early/mid 1980's. Thought it might be a good one! Quote

Thought it might be a good one! What would be funny is if the winning bidder found this thread a month after he bought it worth every cent! Quote
d3c0y Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Haha yeah you would be spyarn' Good thing this stuff doesnt come up in QLD more often, i would be even more broke. Quote
YellowRX Posted September 8, 2013 Author Posted September 8, 2013 BACK UP FOR SALE DUE TO TIME WASTER Quote
dat2kman Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Be interested to know,,, what did the time waster say or do? I have mentioned it is still avail on a ACT based rally forum, you may wish to tempirarily join up, in order to post it up. Based on what it has, i'd suggest at $1500 it is rather low priced. Put it up for 2500-3000, but mention you'll accept near offers. Most on there are genuine types Good luck! If i was closer i'd grab it, stick in a 2.4 and go club racing, alloy cage and all. Btw a replacement for a "lost/missing" logbook at CAMas is around $70 and 10 minutes of time! Quote
nizm0zed Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 A bloke at work is interested in it, i have passed on your details to him, he may call. Quote
YellowRX Posted September 9, 2013 Author Posted September 9, 2013 dat2kman The guy thought i was going to reassemble the engine and get it running for him at the price he bidded. He was from NSW and only had a 6 rating on ebay. It clearly states the head and carbs are off the car. He didnt come on the date specified and was just making an excuse to pull out from buying it. He had a bad rating out of the 6 transactions. I spoke to him in the end and told him not to waste peoples time and to read the ad very clearly next time. Thanks for the help advertising. I am happy with the auction setup at the moment. Id rather it just sell to the highest bidder for now unless a offer is good. HKSZ The head was pulled off for inspection only. It has changed hands two or three times. The last owner had no idea what was done to the motor and pulled it off to see the condition of the pistons, bores and head nizm0zed Thanks buddy i did have a few calls today but couldnt take em at work. just let him know after 6 is best Quote
