Hey all, looking to get an RB engine and gearbox. RB26DETT with 25det gear box or both engine and tran 25DET.

I have called a couple of places but the blokes always seem very rude and unhelpful. If you know of anyone in Melbourne or a good company please drop me a reply.

In return I will send you a link to a very funny youtube video.

Cheers

If you're willing to buy a series 1 r33 wreck with the above 25 package plus 300kw, I might be able to help.

I'll find out more info if you're interested.

no, deal not accepted.

Post the funny youtube clip first!!!  :P

Unfortunately lots of people are just rude and unhelpful, its just life.

So, you have decided on RB26DETT? Or would you settle for a RB25DET?

Reason i ask is that it may influence how you get the parts.

I would start on some skyline forums to see whats about, SAU is a decent one.

for the 26 you'll probably have to source the engine from one person and the gearbox from another which increases the number of tools you need to deal with.

For the 25, i would suggest calling an import wrecker and asking about a RB25 GTS-T front cut.

That way you'll get the whole package, make sure it includes the wiring loom and ECU. that'll make your job a lot easier.

You may be able to negotiate a lower price if you 'sell' the panels, lights, front suspension ect, back to the importer, after all you wont need them.

I haven't priced a halfcut in a long time but i would expect around $2500 for what you are looking for?

Remember you are still going to need engine mounts, a custom built sump, custom built gearbox crossmember, custom exhaust ect ect.

I was able to mount my RB25 using the stock R33 engine mounts (1 side modded slightly) with R31 rubber engine mounts onto the stock crossmember, then use a standard S30 tailshaft into the back of the box and a simple modded crossmember between the stock gearbox mounts.

Bear in mind i did use the RB25DE 5 speed box, its thinner than the turbo box.

May be easier to pick up a whole car, one that has wrapped the side or backend around a power pole, or got bent playing DriftKing etc!

Strip it out, chuck away bits you dont need, or sell off bits on sau forum

Jap import spares in adelaide

Guy may sound bit rude. hes japanese and don't get ozzy humor,  but the gear he sells is top quality.

Hes name is Koji is a top bloke. Last time i was there he had a cheap rb26. So send him an email or call. He also has gearboxes of rb25det.

Hes very strict on prices but doesnt hurt to ask most times expect a "oh no no no no "  ;D still hes prices are lot better than anyone else in adelaide and he knows it.

Good luck

nizm0zed thanks for the advise, I have been doing a lot of research on it. I would love to do the RB26 but it might turn out just a little to expensive. I could hold on for a little while and save. Might be the right way... then again RB25 is not bad :)

nat0_240_chevZ that would be awesome, once i get going ill drop you a PM the brackets have been a worry for me. If I do go RB26 I would like the motor to sit lower and slightly back. Is this a big problem?

Sorry for all the late responses wedding and stuff got me busy as hell!!

Is it possible to do the install with an RB25 and at a later stage upgrade to rb26 with minimal effort?

In theory, yes.

The gearbox/block pattern is the same, as are the engine mounts, the sump will have to be custom just like with the RB25.

Then you'll have other little things like some intake modifications for different style manifolds, exhaust downpipes ect, maybe some slight wiring changes.

Reality though, you are only gaining 100cc.

Would you be keeping the twin turbos? Im not sure if they'd fit in the s30 chassis, im sure i have seen pics so they probably do.

If you are upgrading for power, usually the twins are the first thing to go.

Another alternative is to get the RB25 bottom end rebuilt and put the RB26 head on it.

It starts becoming an expensive exercise though.

You should really work out what you want to do first and do that to begin with.

No,

as the mounts Ive made already drop motor down and back as far as I could get it.

But depending on the gearbox combo, model/year of car etc it can & does differ a lil when talking g/box mounts.

25 or 26 the mounts are good for, but the sump flanges differ quite abit.

but these can be done too.
