Howdy all, first time on board so most of you will probably hate me for a while, thats ok - u know stupid questions and all that. My first is what is the deal with the 260z 2+2, seems to be quite a bit of dislike or at least lack of respect. Is this purely an aesthetic thing (longer wheelbase etc) or are there mechanical/structural/handling issues related to the model?

The extra seats appeal to my needs and it is still a great looking car!

Cheers Benny, thought as much. They seem to be a little cheaper, so that works for me.

 

If anyone can add to this please do. i.e. - other issues with the 'bus'

There aren't really any other issues that the 2 seater doesn't share... only one i can think of is they tend to rust in the lower rear quarters (double skin design). Whats your budget?? Are you looking for a car thats done or a project?

Hey Benny, im looking for good original car, not a project but i am happy to clean up some rust and provide some minor tlc. Needs to be ready to drive daily, with solid mechanicals. I am new to the scene, sick of plastic modern cars designed to fall apart and impossible to repair at home. always loved the style of these cars. Looking to spend $10 ish

Heavier, Slower, Wider, and a little Uglier.

Also 240z/2-seater owners need something to cut up and steal parts from in order to make ours better. ;D

 

In saying that, 2+2's drive abit better and are somewhat quieter on the inside with thicker gauge steel and most of the suspension/driveline parts are strengthened or reinforced over a 240z being 2+2's are of 260z vintage.

Thanks Rertro z, i did see that one, close to me as well. Will a carb set up like that increase fuel consumption or can they be tuned down for city driving? Sorry - noob remember!

I run about 300 Kays per tank on Triple 45MM Dellortos city mileage, 450 Kays Highway that's with an auto. In comparison my 302 V8 powered 2+2 gets 245 Kays per tank city milage so about 18 Litres per 100 Kays on triples but have to be tuned spot on and run electronic ignition. You Could always buy a Prius if you wanted economy  :P

There are some really nice 2+2 cars out there. Take mine for example. You get some really great looks on the road and always have the advantage of taking two friends for a drive instead of one. I have had some big guys in the back of my car and once you get them in it is quite comforty, so they tell me. Getting them out can be a problem. LOL Nothing wrong with 2 seaters except the owners are too scared to drive them much as they are getting quite rare. Can't see the point of of spending a lot of money on a car just to sit in the shed. I am out and about in my 2+2 every chance I get. 8)

I agree Peter! I'm out and about in mine as often as I possibly can, it's always awesome to see another Z when going for a drive but it seems the 2 seaters only come out of the shed for car shows. What a boring bunch of so and sos :P

I take my zed out for the occasional drive on a Sunday... Don't see many other zeds on that road much now anymore...

Don't worry about the 2 sweater snobs. I learned to drive and work on cars in a 2+2. A nice bus is better than a 2 seater that never sees the road!

First time I took mine out for a long drive, I was pleasantly surprised with how many km's I got out of a tank.

 

If you want to be picked on...........

Try driving a ZX then  ::)

Result! Pulled the 'bus' drivers out of the shed. Nice to meet you all, your comments re regular drives etc sit very well with me, I'm not in it for the show just to enjoy driving a beautiful car. They do seem a precious lot!I guess the cars are becoming precious as well so cant argue.

I dont own one yet, and have only been looking/interested for the last 6 months, but haven't seen a 240/260 on the roads around Brisbane.

I drive mt 2 seater (240Z) pretty much as a daily driver in the summer, though if you guys see me on a cruise, there is something very wrong with the world then. lol ;)

I gladly drive my 240z anywhere except work where it would sit in the sun all day (I had to do it for a few months and noticed the fabric on the seats starting to fade even with a sunshade on the window). The only exception is in summer when any car with air-con tends to take preference to a hot z (new air-con system pending). I used to drive a 2+2 to work but the overall condition it was in (combined with the need to warm up, no air-con etc.) meant I was spending my time and money keeping it on the road as opposed to sinking it into my nicer car.

 

To me the 240z is aesthetically more pleasing. The lines of the roof and rear are perfect and I think are what makes the car look so good.

 

Being able to drive more people around in a 2+2 is an obvious advantage, I have sat in the back numerous times and the seats are very comfortable so long as the person in front can move their seat forward enough. I think most other differences between the models are negligible.

 

Don't get me wrong a 2+2 is still more interesting looking than any new buzz box you can buy, and I would regularly have people offering to buy my 2+2 even in it's terrible condition, but they really nailed it with the 2 seater's lines.

 

But in the end it's kinda like asking if you would prefer Natalie Portman or Scarlet Johannson  :-*

I think 'The Bus' terminology is only amongst Z owners. The average bear these days wouldn't know the difference between a two seater or 2+2 unless they were parked side by side. Or a 240 or 260 for that matter. Some racing guys will tell you the 'bus' handles better due to the longer wheel base but in my case I just wanted a Z. I had a 240 which was my first Z but sold it because I thought the repairs were beyond me then I got the 'Bus' and got into it and with help from all the folks on this site have a really good car, which suits me down to the ground. I guess younger people would find the prestige of a 2 seater greater. That is in their nature. If I was 20 again I would be after a 2 seater so my mates couldn't make a move on my girlfriend. These days I throw the old girl in the back seat and chat to my mate while driving. Keeps everyone happy. I'm safe because the cheese and kisses never looks at this site and don't any of you tell her what I posted.
