hey guys, had a search and have been unable to find anything along these lines, but i apologise if its been asked before.

waht sort of economy can i expect from a standard 240/260/280, auto and manual if the figures are available. considering changing my daily to one of these, likely a 260z 2+2 or possibly a 280zx if i find the right car, but if they are hard on the fuel that ways in pretty heavily, ive got a 60km round trip commute each day so yeah, it matters lol.

You are looking to buy a 70's sports car as a daily?

Fuel economy does not factor into it!

If you want an economical daily, go buy a $500 Excel.

i hear you, but in reality if something like a 2+2 260z 280zx can do less than 10l per 100k's, i think its an option.

im a long time z32 owner and can do a lot of my own work, so yeah, thats where im at.

currently got a little pulsar as a daily which is boring the proverbial out of me.

Hi mate,

I drive my 260z as a daily, But i live 5 minutes from work. For some reason

i do allot of unnecessary trips to the shops or up the freeway.

i use about 40 bucks a week , so id guess 10l per 100 is achievable.

worked 28 with 240z SU's manual and feels like 3.7 diff.

But as Lurch said who cares, if you do care than you probably shouldn't use it as a daily.

Cheers

what about a S13? SR turbo manual can be had for 3-4k now days easy, you can leave it in the carpark, who cares if it gets dinged, slide it on weekends, good on fuel.

My current daily, my S15, has 250kw at the wheels, runs low 12's and i get over 500km's to a tank of fuel, no reason a quick fun car cant be economical.

you say you have a pulsar? drop a GTiR motor in it, or go something small turbo, 1.3L starlet GT or a Mazda Familiar GTR, Tx3 turbo? plenty of fun economical cars.

Or go really hard core and buy a Suzuki cappuccino! 600cc turbo 3cyl i think, would be mad on fuel.

My Zed does about 10L/100 on the highway, on the odd occasion it does the daily commute I will be lucky to see 15L/100km. I have a bit of a heavy foot though, but you would too if you have a triple carb L28 8)

On a recent trip down to Lurch's domicile i achieved 450 Kilometers from 53 Litres with 120 Kilometers of this city driving. If you wanted a Zed built for economy i would have a Manual L24 with Electronic Ignition, extractors on a 2" system, single downdraft 32/36 weber and a g-nose modification.

thanks for the responses, im looking to get out of the pulsar (2003 model, 1.6ltr)

i do 300km's back and forth to work, plus maybe 100-150 social stuff, so sunds like its plausible.......

what fuel tank size are we working with?

are the efi versions significantly better on fuel or not really?

I check my fuel consumption with every tank refill. My 240z generally uses in the low 12lt/100km range (12.02lt/100 last check) that is driving 13km each way to work , which is a mix of town & rural driving and I drive it short trips around town shopping etc. I do sometimes have a heavy foot as well!

My car is fairly stock, Hitachi round top carbies, electronic ignition and  E88 head it does have a reground cam shaft though I don't know the exact grind.

I have recorded as low as 8.86lt to the 100km mark with pure highway driving.

Regards

Peter
