53-681 Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 (edited) Hi everyone, I'm basically after all the pieces to go L26 EFI. I want the EFI bits from a 280ZX. Please PM me what you have to offer and we'll take it from there. Kind Regards Edited August 7, 2021 by 53-681 Privacy Quote
dat2kman Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Sam, what dont you like about what you are running now? Bear in mind a old used heat cycled ex 280 ZX EFI system may need a fair bit of work to rejuvenate and get right. They are good, but, when it comes to the total spend to get it right, ( unless you are lucky with a low mileage ZX to carefully remove it all from) ,,, you will be better off getting a ZX efi manifold, a set of VL commo injectors, a reasonable aftermarket ECU, a XF Falcon throttle body, set it all up with MAP sensor, and run the injectors at a lesser duty cycle, more tunable, and less of a head pharque!! 53-681 Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 Hi Jason, Approximately how much will all those parts cost and is there a reputable mechanic to perform the installation? I wonder if Scoota G will do it?? Megasquirt 2 ECU's are fairly cheap on eBay (New) Quote
53-681 Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 I'm contemplating whether it's worth the hassle... Is it just worth purchasing an RB20/RB25 and getting that fitted in??? What do you reckon Scoota? Quote
Scoota G Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 On the phone you seem fonder of the SR20DET conversion, buy yourself an engine gearbox package and lets get cracking. Quote

53-681 Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 Yeah it's not low at all - What engine was it? Quote
dat2kman Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Yeah it's not low at all - What engine was it? Possibly, going by his pic under his name, and his name, its a high mileage 1979 280zx engine. Must concur on the thoughts of others re price, although if it had some internal mods/work done, then it'd be pretty fair priced! Sam, where are you up to with your injection plans? Quote
53-681 Posted March 31, 2013 Author Posted March 31, 2013 I'm still at planning stage trying to pick the right mod to proceed with Jason. I can either save up 3.5K and go tripple ITB's with a Haltech ECU orrrr purchase a 280ZX EFI kit from someone here on this forum. Seeming as my engine has had lots of work done to it in the past (high comp pistons, head, 280zx box, 260z auto diff, eletrics etc.) I think it's worthwhile investing in it and getting a good fuel system to suit. I don't think I should skimp out on it... My vehicle is currently parked in underground secure car park; I will just leave it there and probably catch the tram/bus to work... Do you have any suggestions Jase? Quote
zomb13 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Im in craigieburn and have a full set up, with a 280zx s1 and s2 SO let me know as i would swap for help with my car's efi. Quote

All I can say is keep saving!!! EFI Throttle body's tapered bore with manifold set you back $4600 that's 50/48/45 And Haltech ECU platinum sport 2000 $2200 !! Just to give a realistic price. Quote

C.A.R. Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Pretty much the same HP from a stock ZX setup anyway... Care to clarify that remark, Jake? Quote
luvemfast Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Pretty much the same HP from a stock ZX setup anyway... That's crazy talk. You're crazy! Quote
53-681 Posted April 2, 2013 Author Posted April 2, 2013 Nop. I can do it for 3.5k max 4. Don't need 50's. Apparantly I've got an e30 head or something Quote
dat2kman Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 For "bang for buck" as suggested prior, stock ZX injection manifold, new VLTurbo Commo injectors, XF Falcon TB, sucking through stock AFM, or run a MAP setup, aftermarket ECU. You can only consume as much fuel/air as it can suck air. Basic lo-buck setup, using modern ECU, tuneable to give correct air to fuels right through rpm range. Cost? I have little idea, but Manifold 50-100 Injectors x6 400 Xf TB at wreckers 50-100 Ecu 800-1200 Map 50-100 Fuel press reg 100-150 Incidental hoses plumbing pipes air filter etc 150-200 Tune/setup/dyno with wide band 300-600 Anyone care to add anything else!
