77260Z Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Hey guys. My name's Luke, I iust got myself a 260Z 2 seater. Flew down to Sydney on Saturday morning and spent the rest of the day (and night) driving her back to sunny Brisbane. Pity the weather was so horrible most of the way, but we made it! Needs plenty of work but I've had a bit of experience with cars so I'm looking forward to it. I'm about to start a build thread so I'll put some pics up there but here's a few for a start. Fueling up on the drive home: Finally home: Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 24, 2013 Administrators Posted February 24, 2013 Wow bit of a barn find, but good project all the same. Good thing you made it home with no issues. Looking forward to seeing the build take shape. Selfish request, but if you decide to ditch the rear view mirror for something else, let me know? I have been trying to find an original door mirror for a looonnngggg time. Quote
Scottz Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Hi Luke, Great find and we look forward to your project updates. Welcome aboard. Scott. Quote
benny Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 not to shabby.... mind saying what you paid for it? Quote
dat2kman Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 It's a Datsun, of course it will handle that! Brilliant, fly down, have a look, do a deal, hop in, drive it all day and night, not a problem! Bit of rust, no doubt more to be found, but this looks quite good, well done, and yes, another Queenslander!!! Quote
be-zed Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Welcome to another Queenslander. I would say you were lucky you didn't have to teach your car how to swim on the return trip home. Quote
CroS13 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 i looked at this car to buy a few months ago but passed on it, as im not too great with a welder, so i decided to get a good condition 2+2 for the same price, hopefully you managed to knock him down from what he was asking. How did she drive? when i drove it she was a little rough down low. Good luck with it mate! Quote
77260Z Posted February 26, 2013 Author Posted February 26, 2013 Thanks for the welcome guys! I've been getting into it already as you can see on the build thread. Paid a touch over 6k including flights and fuel back home. Might have over-paid a little looking at the body now, but considering it's a 2 seater I'm still fairly happy. And I found out half way home when checking the rego papers that it's an L28 instead of the L26 i presumed so that was a bonus. Going to take it round to a local mechanic mate of mine later in the week and get him to go over it thoroughly and let me know exactly what it needs to be a safe and reliable daily. Has a good diff clunk and a bit of gearbox whine so I think drivetrain will be the first thing I'll focus on mechanically. Brakes seem to be alright, steering is a little loose but everything is fixable (just comes down to $$$ haha) Quote
CroS13 Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 nah id be happy with that price man, especially considering that included flights and fuel. to put things into perspective i ended up paying close to 9k for my 2+2. and thats close what he was initially asking. i saw it in the first week it was advertised too so would have been at a ridiculous price then. Cant wait to see what you end up doing to her! Rudolf. Quote
Lynton Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Welcome, drive train whine comes standard from nissan, especially in 5th gear, check rubber mount on diff for clunk and worn drive shafts, often hard to do smooth gear changes 1st to 2nd and worn clutch thrust bearing can be heard inside car while idling depress clutch listen and release listen. Regards lynton Quote
CooperJS Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Congrats on the new buy! I saw that on gum tree the other day and went to check today and couldn't find it but now i have, good to see some good pictures of the car! Cooper Quote

Regards lynton Welcome mate. I have replaced everything in the back end and still have a clunk. Gotta expect some noises from 30+ old cars no matter what you do. Maybe if I replace all the sound deadening material would make it quieter. What side of Brissie are you on? Peter. Quote

I've just picked up a replacement 240z gearbox on the weekend (the one in it is the worst I've ever driven.. 1st and 2nd gear synchros have had it.) and I've also ordered a new rubber gearbox mount. Once I get a new clutch I'll be pulling the engine and box out and giving the bay and the block a bit of a tidy up before they go back in with the new gearbox/clutch. I'm on the west side of brissy, out ipswich way. I'm guessing you're southside? Quote
peter t Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Thats right, Loganholme but if you need any advice just give us a shout. Quote
