260z.76 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Hey my mate has a l20 turbo 280zx And he will sell me the entire car for 800 bucks I want to put the motor in my 260z L26 is on it last kms And wondering if i need to upgrade anything for compliance plates Its a standard l20 with after market bov and turbo timer Thanks steve Quote
d3c0y Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Maybe an L28 to bolt all the turbo gear to! To my knowledge you can run as is. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 22, 2013 Moderators Posted February 22, 2013 Last L20 Turbo I saw made same power as a good L28 with 240 carbs and electronic ignition. Even with aftermarket ECU. Quote
260z.76 Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 Iv got another project to work on cant afford much So if this wont been upgrades but engine conpliance I might go with it Also do the 5 speed manuals from them fot straight in no worries Quote
260z.76 Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 Also its getting me a manual conversion As well as a better motor and its in a 2+2 So i don't want to spend much and this seems like a good option Getting a turbo so it will look nice doesn't have to be fast I have a project v8 in a old falcon for that Just wanna no if i will have to upgrade anything for compliancing And will the r180 diff handle it? Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 22, 2013 Moderators Posted February 22, 2013 Won't be able to use the pedals if you needed them.. but G/box and possibly slave cylinder can be used. Quote
260z.76 Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 Awesome thanks how mu h does a pedal box go for these days? Quote
zzzzed Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I got rid of my old v8 falcon because my stock as a rock 260z 2+2 was faster and more fun to drive in every way. I have had about 10 v8 falcons from xr to xb. 289, 302 and 351. None have given me the enjoyment that any of my zeds have. But saying that. I would like my original 289 xr fairmont back just for the cruise factor Quote
pauly_adams Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 your r180 will handle it my L28et is putting out 180kw at the rears and mines fine but mines also a lsd, no idea where it came from though Quote
260z.76 Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 How do you go with compliance will it need brake up grades? Or will stock 260z be good enough Yea i have a xc gs and has a 383 v8 putting 400 down still needs work For the road tho Quote
Scoota G Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 There's your solution. Put the 383 in the 260Z Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted February 22, 2013 Moderators Posted February 22, 2013 There's your solution. Put the 383 in the 260Z I like the way you think Scoota Quote
260z.76 Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 Hahaha well i have a spare 351 out the back But maybe in a 2 seater haha So will it need brake upgrades for conpliancing? Quote
260z.76 Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 Okay deciding a l28 turbo But will that need 280zx front and rear brakes? And will the open wheel r180 handle say 250-300 hp at the engine? Quote
pauly_adams Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 yes it should as long as its in good condition, you should be fine as its technicaly just a engine swap that requires no engineering or certificate. i would however change the front brakes to hilux calipers at least Quote
260z.76 Posted February 23, 2013 Author Posted February 23, 2013 Even as its a turbo? The brakes on it are pretty bloody good but will look at hilux calipers If i wont need upgrades i will look into doing to as i dont have a big budget tho Quote
pauly_adams Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 if you get s12+8 callipers they are a strait bolt on with the 2+2, if the diff doesn't handle it just swap it out put a new one in or weld it up so its locked Quote
nizm0zed Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 if you get s12+8 callipers they are a strait bolt on with the 2+2, if the diff doesn't handle it just swap it out put a new one in or weld it up so its locked dont weld your diff up so its locked... ffs, this is so stupidly dangerous, DONT DO IT!!!! Its fine if its a track only car, but for a street car you need your differential to work properly, for your own saftey and that of everyone else on the road. Quote
pauly_adams Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 sorry nismoz is right im so use to dealing with drift cars, welding the diff on a road car= bad idea,(sorry and im a bit ashamed of saying it) if they break your in all sorts of trouble generally ends in disaster, you can change the centre to a r180 from a Subaru much more suitable. Quote
260z.76 Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 Oh okay yea didnt wanna weld the diff So what suby doff centers are changeable As long as the r180 can handle it with a lsd im happy I wont be thrashing it alot Quote
260z.76 Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 Kinda messed up my diff is a r200!! Haha whats the easyest whay to find out if its lsd or open My with outs opening it up or will i have to open it Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 24, 2013 Moderators Posted February 24, 2013 Jack up the rear of your car and spin one wheel; if the other spins in the same direction, you have an LSD. If the other wheels spins in the opposite direction, you have an open diff. If you spin one wheel and get someone else to hold the other stationary, there should be a fair amount of effort to spin that wheel. Thats an LSD.... but make sure you are in neutral. Quote
260z.76 Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 I will have a look tomorrow As of the l28 turbo with upgrades My suspension should be fine Im just conserned about brakes if ill need 280zx brakes And disk rear end and front or mine eill be okay as they are Quote
