RB30X Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Ok who's got one of these bad boys? When I had the Zed I really wanted to record footage inside the engine bay looking at the throttle opening and shutting during a flogging and all those cool car type shots you can record. At the moment I've been looking at Go Pro videos recorded while fishing, using them while trolling underwater etc. They look awesome and I want one (please buy my parts in the for sale section ) Who's got some advice on the cheapest place to buy them and what sort of pack I should get (water proof cover, mounts, batteries, memory cards etc) Feel free to post your favorite recording too. Thanks Quote
luvemfast Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I've got the AEE one and have seen that Kogan are now selling them for $150 That's a price that can't be beat! Quote
RB30X Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 What's the AEE one? I see hero 3 silver Ed is around $400 while the black edition is $800. Both can be viewed wirelessly on your iPhone or android tablet using an app and a backpack thingy. Quote
Johnboy Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Hi RB30X, My mate uses one for both Open Water Rowing and Mountain Biking, and swears by the GoPro Black with remote. I have been recommend to get them from Kogan, weblink Below. And it looks like they now have a Motor Sport edition!! http://www.kogan.com/au/shop/cameras/ http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/gopro-hd-hero2-motorsports-edition/ Quote
luvemfast Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I've got an AEE one. Not sure if its the same one as Kogan's. It has an LCD display for playback. Remote control. Laser to set shot. Quite a few different mounts. Full 1080, but I set it lower. Think I have some footage of DECA on YouTube. If you wanted to see Quote
sexual_sushi Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I nearly bought a GoPro at the airport in Singapore as it was so cheap ($250 from memory) but I couldn't buy 1 pack that had the right attachments for cars and snowboarding (I will have to purchase the attachments separately). In Aus I buy my camera gear from http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au/. They source from Singapore and Hong Kong and are always much cheaper than retail in Aus. This site is cheap too but I haven't ordered from them before http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Default.aspx. My granddad just ordered a lens from them over Christmas and it was fine. Quote
. Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I have been using a pair of SVGA quality video glasses since 2010. They are great because there are no mounts required. I just wear them under my helmet while racing. Plus they are only $18 delivered. Since then I have upgraded to a set of HD video glasses. These cost about $70 delivered. I'm not as impressed with them only because their operation is a little more difficult. You can see the results on Youtube by searching galderdi. The quality is not quite as good once Youtube converts it. Quote
dat2kman Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Played around with older GoPro, and now new HD 1080 GoPro, in circuit race as well as rally. The older model frame refresh (720 p ?) is not great, but in 1080 the HD video quality is excellent. Biggest issue is wind nouse, and vibration, have used them externally roof mounted, internally glass mounted via suction cup, but they all seem to have poor sound reproduction. BTW the suction cup is brilliant for dent pulling! Youtube search "fury 120Y" as well as "jason lea datsun" the last one from Bega valley rally wnas the 1080 HD. All are ownned/operated by my navigator, i cant see/work out the miniscule tiny back display screen! Quote
Riceburner Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I've got the AEE one and have seen that Kogan are now selling them for $150 That's a price that can't be beat! What's the AEE Simon? Sounds like a good deal Quote
RB30X Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 What's the AEE Simon? Sounds like a good deal +1 All are ownned/operated by my navigator, i cant see/work out the miniscule tiny back display screen! You can get an iphone or android app now to control the gopro from your phone or tablet. it shows you what the gopro can see too, so it helps lining it up etc. Quote
luvemfast Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 What's the AEE Simon? Sounds like a good deal I received an email the other day with them on special for $149. It seems the price has gone back up to $199 again. The Kogan unit is the SD21, where mine is the SD19 from memory. I think the camera is the same, just the attachments differ. I have a suction mount that I don't think is included in that deal. But I do like the looks of the surf mount, to put on my waterski. $29 Quote
Thomo260 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I have the Gopro Black 3 and love the remote control on my smart phone with the Gopro App. Picture quality is brilliant, but now I find that my 12mth old expensive laptop is not good enough to run the Cineform editing program and my internet is to slow to upload any footage from it Quote
luvemfast Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I like the sounds of the go pro app. You can not only use it as a remote, but it shows you what is being recorded also Quote

RB30X Posted February 1, 2013 Author Posted February 1, 2013 Wow thats cheap. What do you miss out on though (quality etc) with one of these compared to go pro, or are you just paying for a name. Quote
NZeder Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 When in transit in Singapore I was so tempted to get the GoPro Black with the Wifi remote....however I still have other things that need $$ before I get a camera. Quote
luvemfast Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Do a YouTube search "AEE vs Go Pro" You're not missing out on quality at all. It has a remote control. But I like the iPhone app for Go Pro. Quote
RB30X Posted February 1, 2013 Author Posted February 1, 2013 Think I have some footage of DECA on YouTube. If you wanted to see Yes please. These are still $149 today apparently. I might just order one. Quote

Cozza Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Looks like they are $199.99 from Go Pro U.S. http://gopro.com/cameras/hd-hero3-white-edition Quote
RB30X Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 I ended up going with one of these AEE's for a try and I'm pretty happy with it. Only problem is I don't have any video editing software that accepts the output files which are .mov When I try to convert them to avi to use on windows movie maker the quality reduces dramatically. Any suggestion for a video editing software?? Thanks Quote
sexual_sushi Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Can you get a hold of any adobe products? Premiere and/or After Effects should do everything you need. You can use Handbrake to convert mov to avi I believe. http://handbrake.fr/ It's free too. Not for editing though. I just used it to rip The Dark Knight rises from a bluray disc that wouldn't play on my player. Full bluray hi-def with surround sound! Quote
