  1. Yeah, I've been looking at them it's just about 3 weeks ago there were about 3 on gumtree in Victoria around that price! but of course, as soon as I have the money they're all gone. I might wait another few weeks to see if one pops up. Thanks, Andrew
  2. I'm after a Lincoln 180c welder, I'm thinking a used one would be great as they are around the 400-550 range which is what I'm looking at spending. Thought someone might be selling one as allot of you guys are using this welder. I'm in Victoria and I'd travel around the state for one at the right price! Cheers, Andrew
  3. I'd be interested in one however It would be great to get one that is longer and goes further towards the front wheels maybe 30cm extra? Don't know if this is feasible so if not then I might be able to roll and weld something on Cheers, Andrew
  4. Haha I suppose so, her number was disconnected so I thought I would just message her on Facebook to get some info xD
  5. Hahahaha, no no, this is a picture of the girl who painted up my z! I was just saying that her hair is the same color as the car! XD
  6. Thanks PB! I've finally gotten in contact with the girl that painted my z up! Turns out her dad did all the work between 2004-2006 and I spoke to her dad, he said that all major rust areas were cut out and new metal in, he did say that a few areas such as the rear hatch were acid washed and then bogged however he said that there wasn't much that was just bogged over. Apparently the repairs aren't perfect but there is metal everywhere (and bog was just used to cover his welds etc) he also said that he had the roadworthy inspector look at the work he did to the frame rails in 2006 (when it was re-registered) and they said it was fine however I think they have deteriorated since then. He sounded like he didn't want to do anything such as bogging over large rust areas because he didn't want his daughter to drive something that was dangerous etc. From what I've seen in the car this appears to be true and I don't see why he wouldn't tell the truth considering he isn't selling me the car. The car was kept around the Donald/Ballarat area after the repairs were done up until 2011 when it went down to Philip island. The girl is overseas but she said that she would send photos of the various repairs and the car before anything was done to it when she gets home which is fantastic! It's really great to be finally able to know what the deal is with the car! I must also say that this girls hair is a very similar color to the car which explains a lot. Also, I ordered one of these on eBay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121956705254 A 20$ 5meter 2mp borescope camera (with a light and everything) which will allow me to get a look inside the car, I'll get it into the frame rails, down under the sill, up into the roof and rear 3/4 panels which will give me a really really good idea of what I'm dealing with! Have a great weekend! Cheers, Andrew Please enjoy this photo which explains why my car is a little odd...
  7. Well, started ripping into the rear window more, it seems fine on the driver's side, the passengers side has had some serious hackory in the past but it's a fairly decent job. Got the interior panels off and had a good look from the inside. The passenger side dogleg has been replaced with a proper panel (and done well) whereas the window area was pretty hackky but it will do for the time being. Also was able to see that my sils are fine on the passenger side and are rusted on the drivers side, it feels mostly ok however there is a hole about 4-5cm on the bottom. I've rust converted everywhere and I'll get some primer where I can in the next few days. Looks like someone has spent stacks of money though. I can imagine a body shop charging plenty for this repair... The images are looking up from the inside. I'll get some more pictures up tomorrow! Feeling pretty positive about the car now. I've come to realise that it may never be worth fully striping down due to the nature of the repairs. But hey, if it's not bubbling or getting any worse and I can get her on the road and enjoy the driving experience that will be good enough for me ? Have a good one guys and girls! Andrew
  8. I just went out and double checked, the lowest setting is actually 80 amps not 50 so perhaps thats the problem?
  9. I feel that on the minimum setting it has too many amps as I just burn through if I touch the metal for more then half a second, I used a welder at my school to weld some sort of ornament for a mates project (similar thickness to the panels I've worked with) and I was able to get them welded up really neatly and not burn through whereas with my welder as soon as I touch a thin piece of metal poof it's gone. Is this something to do with going from gassed to gassless?
  10. Awesome! I'll give him a call in a few days as I've started more repairs On a scale of 1-10 (10 being you should defiantly sell and buy a commodore) how bad would you say this is? It's probably a bit better then what I was expecting which is good and the repairs done 10-15 years ago (I suspect) seem to be holding up ok.
  11. A supercrap auto gassless mig which was given to me, it hasn't got the proper temperature controls just "min" and "max" where min is still at 50amps which is kinda useless for thin metal.
  12. Yep, my demister works, took me a while to replace the vacuum lines but I got all the controls to work so I am able to blow hot or cold air at the windshield. But that's certainly a good idea with driving past the places and finding out what kind of cars they deal with! Cheers, Andrew
  13. I've decided to put the project on hold for a few months, I'm saving up for a Lincoln 180c welder (probably just get one second hand as it's not the sort of thing that is really easy to damage and quite easy to fix) That way I can really do repairs properly, Sure I can get panels welded in roughly with my current welder but It's not to a standard that pleases me as my current welder has very little control and I end up burning through panels which is just time consuming and annoying. If anyone is selling one let me know!
  14. Unfortunately that isn't the case! the garage I went to were overly picky and had no idea what they were talking about. They were not happy with the fact that my AC doesn't work (doesn't have a belt on it) the back seats not automatically clicking in (You have to push the leaver back to lock it in, the way it was from factory) as well as my dogleg being in primer, the chain I have around my diff due to the strap breaking (don't see why this is an issue) and my vinyl wrap (they said that there will be rust under it but I know that there isn't. I've decided to take the vinyl off and get some colour matched paint, make the car look more respectable and take it somewhere that is used to dealing with older cars, they were inspecting it as if it was a newer car. Anybody know anywhere that is good, I've got a place in mind but I would love to go to a place that isn't going to be winging about my AC not being hooked up (because it is low on R12 gas and my car is slow enough as it is) Also, vicroads actually specifies that the Aircon doesn't need to be functioning but I really can't be bothered with this place (C&A Auto Fashion) Andrew
  15. That's what I was thinking, I put a proper gasket in but it just seems pointless going around half of it...
  16. Hi all, So I'm doing my oil pan gasket at the moment and my oil pan has this thing on it (well the black part anyway) I'm wondering what the point of it is as it only goes around one corner of the oil pan. Cheers, Andrew
  17. She's going for a roadworthy next Wednesday so wish me luck! Hopefully she will pass so I can finally drive her! So keen!
  18. I'd see if you can speak to Lindsay form the Z-Shop in Glen Iris Vic, they are closing down and might be able to help you out. I saw probably 30 entire roof sections in his storage area Didn't get a photo but you can see here fenders hanging up going back about 5m!
  19. Ok, I'll look into it! Thanks!
  20. This was kept in country vic and was going to be used for parts however the owner decided to sell it rather then parting it. I had a quick look at it in person and the body looks rough but the interior isn't terrible, frame rails look solid, no rust in drivers floor pan. It's actually a fair bit better then what it looks like. Would be a fair bit of work but I reckon if someone was wanting a cheap starting point and willing to put in time and money (lots) it could be doable Looks like it was kept pretty dry until recently as the floor pans had water sitting in them but were still solid, I tried to get the drain plug out to save them but wasn't able to. I do think the numberplate is fitting though..
  21. Hi all, I'm wanting to get new shocks for a roadworthy however I'd like to get some lowering springs after I get a roadie. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what shocks would suite say a set of king springs spring rates as I'd like to get a combo that would match up well. Andrew
  22. If you manage to find a few sets at a decent price let me know, I'd love some fender mirrors
  23. Your master is probably stuffed, I'd just go and grab a new one
  24. Also, cleaned my carbies and tidied up my engine bay! they look great. Put some blanking plugs in where some old emissions stuff which wasn't connected due to the British SU not supporting it all. Deleted the EGR valve thingo and welded up the holes. Also got rid of those (asbestos?) heat-shields as the new British SU's don't really have any issues with vapour locking
  25. Yeah, I've decided I'm going to save up for a second hand Lincon 180c and go from there! As for the head bolts I'll get around to that this weekend, however I haven't had anymore oil leaks which is good!
