  1. If you really want to clean them up, USE SODA BLASTING, mate i don't know how i lived without soda. I used it on my N42 head and boy oh boy, like new, only takes away organic compounds, fantastic. I made up a little hand blaster and works a treat, all it is is a hose with a football pumping nozzle stuck into it in the direction of flow and hay presto, soda blaster.
  2. you bugga dam Xmass spending, i'm broke and there is about $1000 of parts i want. DO you do rainchecks. LOL
  3. Will do, the pic os of a mates head he got from the states but looks like my brothers. From meory they are the same as N42 in size
  4. sure can, heer is a pic of one i found elsewhere. I have not got chinnas head off yet but looking into the head with a pin cam that is what it appears to be
  5. Well hence the question, HOWEVER we have just discovered that my brothers L24e head is an MN47 as such, 39cc dish with full quench, i think the CR would work out to be about 10.3:1 with flat tops. Humm her's thinking I have no idea as to who to ask about the cam shaft TA
  6. Ok so there is about 4000000 cam suppliers and so forth. I am using an L28 head on an L26 block, why? cos i can. Got a question then, when buying a cam i assume i get one for an l28 internaly oiled, BUT, is the grind different for an L28 and an L26? Sorry but whilst i have done about 10 engine rebuilds, i have never did any major modification. Any advice would be great. Alternative is use the cam towers form my E88 and externally oil cam? Humm any help would be great
  7. You aint seen rust, you should see my car. It is held together with about 100kg of rust. Look bad though, depends how much he is asking and what you are willing to spend. I'm fairly lucky in that i have all the mechanical know how to build just about anything and enough money to pay someone for all my fcuckups. LOL.
  8. One other thing we have found. There is, or at least appear to be, a square outlet N47 head which was used on the series 2 L24E. I will post pics once we have it off.
  9. Got any costs for the kit? Ta
  10. A little birdie told me that a Ford Falcon is the same, not sure which year though
  11. humm which module, the 280zx thing or what, please clarify as i am interested
  12. So do you know if the 240Z pistons with valve cutouts work and clear the valves or do i need to get a stock flat piston and machine releifs myself? I noticed you run dished pistons, i wish to run flat tops for about 10.2: 1 compression
  13. dam your keen, my car is a long term project dam it. Still hope to have it doen withing 2 years in lure of 5
  14. sounds good, same price as mine, did you mention that you got the number from me at all? I should ask for commision. Hea seasm to know what he is on about. $30 per hour for body work is ok, speccialy if you think $2000 = 66 man hours.
  15. yeah saw that this morning, but dam a bit exy i think
  16. LOL, availability of resources, anyone for Cad 2011 beta? LOL
  17. sweet, yeah he is going to be coming over sometime to asses my car. Good luck, what sougth of money was it going to cost according to ben?
  18. Humm, will teh stock L24 240z flat top pistons with the notches for the valves suit a n42 head. HUMM thinking ,thiniking
  19. also, can i get a copy of the template. ta
  20. fcuncking fantastic, Another question then, from weverywher i have read, the N42 uses shorting valves so you con't run a big lift cam, what is the maximum cam you can get away with on a stcok length valves and performance springs, without having to get new lash pads. I'm still new to all this, well the L series engine anyhow.
  21. did you call the soda blasing buy. if you are only doing a respray and so forth, you don't need to go down to bare metal at all.
  22. yeah i figured, just not sure how much and where yet. got any pics
  23. Not sure if anyone wants to sticky this http://bitemedoughboy.com/n42.htm Looks good
  24. Not with 240z flat top pistons. I figured i might aswell use the N42 head, that way i don't need larger valve in the E88 i have. So NEW plan is, L26 block, L24 flat top pistons, 1mm head gasket, n42 head, deshrouded, ported, polished and shaved. Should get a CR of about 10.2:1 or so.
  25. Hi Guys Well over the weekend my brother picked up an L28 from an MQ patrol, for a mere $50 sum. Apparantly the head drooped a valve but, once disassembled, the head is FINE, nice and straight and all good. It's an N42 head so has the 44 and 35mm valves. As a result, my 260Z will get the N42 head due to requiring minimal work compared with my E88 head. Has anyone ran a N42 head on any Z car? If so, what results and so forth? Alos, the cam on it has a number 3 stamped on it? Any idea as to what the cam profile might be? would it perform better then the stock Z cam, i would assume it is designed for tourqe not power. Anyone please advise. Thanks
