Std globes. I looked at some of the threads with LED lights and figured I should go with the easier option so went with slightly higher voltage. I did recently install a parking light upgrade but hadn't noticed any real difference with the lights in the dash (which it mentioned should be brighter). For some time my headlights have been dropping out. (They wouldn't work at all if I had the cover holding the wires in under the dash. I figured it was a short and never really investigated. Whilst playing around with all the wires today I noticed a spark, and the wire powering the headlights wasn't even connected, but if the wires under the steering wheel at the right position it was giving me lights because it was rubbing against its home. No wonder it was so dogdy. At least that'll be an easy fix. Currently I have no indicators. I think when I was playing around with the wires under the heater unit I may have disconnected the hazard switch perhaps. I'll look again tmrw. Hoping it isn't somehow related to whatever is happening behind the tacho. For now I have a fixable headlight problem. But no lights showing on the tacho. (Fixed: the bulb had popped back out of the tacho, not sure why I couldn't see the glow in the darkness, but saw it this morning). I have no indicators working, so not sure if I have the dash lights working for those or not. The fuse that is dead appears to be for the demister. I'm going to get some replacement fuses all round, they are stupidly old.

Tacho is pretty much impossible to remove as best I can tell without some major work. Speedo should come out (have taken off the front/back screws) and removed the speedo cable, but I cannot remove the Trip Reset cable (its wrapped around the heater vent and wont give me enough length to pop out the speedo. I've undone the tiny screw as best I can, still can't remove the thing. Oh well, I guess I leave this project until the weekend. EDIT 2: Finally removed the speedo, i undid all the vent related piping which allowed a bit more room to pop the speedo out. I was then actually able to finally get the tiny screw out of the trip reset cable. And I finally got the speedo out and swapped over the four lights. (Brake, Highbeam and two others). With the speedo and venting out I was finally able to get to the bulbs behind the tacho and swapped 3 of them (left/right blinker and one other). Not sure if I popped them back in the right spots (they'd been yanked out by accident when I removed the piping). Went to test it all. And the fuse is dead. Oh well, Swapped globe in the glovebox. And now I just have to hope I guessed right with the indicators, replace that fuse and hope to hell it doesn't blow the second I try my lights. :'(

Finally got some action. Wasn't sure how to get the bulbs out, ended up taking out one of the dials and realised you just yanked em out. There weren't as many globes as I was expecting, was told by zstore that there was one for the clock, two for the amp/fuel, two for oil/water. Unless I'm missing something, they all only appear to have one glove each. Now have to try to access the ones behind the speedo and tacho and starting to lose light. Oh well, wish me luck. Thanks for that diagram Scoota, might be helpful when I come to putting it all back again.

Thanks Scoota, you're a champ. No idea what half these terms mean, but i'm sure once I get in there I'll be able to spot the heater matrix. Thanks for the quick reply.

I've been searching everywhere, can't find a simple answer. A lot of people seem to replace them when they have the dash out. Others mention pulling out the guages. Help me ! I've got a few hours to kill today. (I've had some 4V globes sitting around for ages). Thanks in advance.

Even if I won Lotto I'd stop short of getting that many Z's. I'm definitely jealous. So, is anyone in Perth interested in joining me in a Gone in Sixty sessions mission?

So glad you bumped this. First I've seen of it. Some amazing cars in those pics.

Welcome mate, Good to see someone else from Perth on here. Repairing rust buckets you say .. ? I'm calling dibbs on you coming to look at my car. go on, you know you want to. Sam.

I'm putting in a 4.365 diff, at 100kph I'm hoping it revs around 3,500rpm. My engine really only gets going at 3000rpm, so I'm hoping it'll be perfect for a road car that's fun to drive. The car was an AUTO, and the AUTO diff in it at present makes it pretty sluggish (well, at least compared to my previous 3.9 always manual zed). I'd recommend a 4.111 if you want to be sensible.

Just a tip, if you ever want to flip your monitor, CTRL + ALT + Down Arrow do the trick on most systems these days. (CTRL + ALT + Up Arrow to return to normal). Love that interior. Seats rock. And that little area in front of the gear stick is pretty sexy.

Ah... My calendar skills need some work. I even checked Saturday and somehow convinced myself it was next week. Sucks cause i had a car available yesterday and everything. Oh well, guess I can go to future music next Sunday. I'm an idiot. Thanks for heads up, at least I didnt walk there for nothing.

Full Membership $35, Country Membership $25 (Over 100km from Perth) Associate Membership (Active) $30, Associate Membership (Social) $15 My car isn't legally allowed on the road at the moment so I'll probably join in with the Social membership action. I'll be wandering down unless someone is coming past Morley way and wants to give me a lift?

My car had no power. Battery, starter, alternator all showing 13v, everything else: nothing. Maybe I'd had too many beers but after checking fuses I was stumped. Came to look for help and found this thread. Thanks to you I found the problem. Somehow the fusable link wasn't in nice and tight. I'll donate some cash to the site tmrw as my way of saying thanks.

:'That's beautiful news. PM on its way OP.

Oh this is bullsh*t. I finally get some money set aside for a diff and its likely gone. I had my eye on this ages ago. I guess I should lurk here more often. I'm guessing my pretty close to standard Z would struggle to accelerate with a 4.6. If the sale falls through on the 4.3. Let me know. (that said, i have no idea if I even need a long or shortnose. I have a 2+2 that was a manual, now has 5 speed - anyone care to shed some light on how I'd know - too lazy to google today) Can someone send me a PM (i'm sure zzzzed and tir31 don't need more filler in this thread - I'm sorry for that).

Make a stand against the new hoon legislation!

I concur re nsw cops. Theyd pull me over frequently in my zed. Once my Z was parked in my driveway (i wasn't in the car and hadn't driven it that day). Cop demanded I show him my engineers certificate. I pointed out the car was original. He refused to accept my word and said he was stickering my car. I had to rummage in the garage for my Haynes manual to show him. Dick didn't even apologise. Under the new laws he could possibly impound my car simply because he thought it didn't look legit. Sure i could get it back after clearing up the mess, but does that make it acceptable? The argument that you shouldn't worry about over reaching police powers if you do nothing wrong is just silly. Cops def target sports cars. I drive to the speed limit, but I sometimes like to get there quickly. I remember a few times thrashing my 120y to the limit past cops and they didn't look twice. Hoon laws are a bit much. There is already significant penalties for speeding, defective cars etc. Im with ya OP. -

Nice idea. That works. I would definitely sneak them through the warehouse in that case. -
I ordered some parts and received these by mistake. They are no good to me and they don't want them back. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/370z15/50-4202 Preferrably someone in Perth who can pick them up. Otherwise, I might be able to sneak a parcel out through the warehouse (but i'm not going to a post office - I'm too lazy). Let me know. Sam.

I had an engine fire a few years ago. A guy in a datsun 1200 stopped and put it out. I was walking around some auto store on the weekend when I spotted the extinguisher and remembered his sage advice "If you own a datsun, own an extinguisher". So I just figured it'd be good to have. Where I was thinking of putting it in front of the rear seat, but on the passenger side (one, because its easy to reach there, and two, the other side has a spot for my jack). I"ll have a look through Benny's pics and see if I can find where it goes. I really want it somewhere handy, but not in the way. And somewhere that it doesn't look horribly out of place.

I have a 260 2+2. I bought myself an extinguisher on the weekend (1kg), just curious where people have or would like to fit them? I was thinking in the same spot as the jack (but on the other side)? What do you recommend?
