  1. Yep thanks Gav, going to have a look on Thursday.
  2. Sorry .... 260z 2 seater ... would need to get it done by a mechanic to drive back to Canberra from SE Melbourne.... so fitted cost (and even recommendations for mechanics) would be great ....
  3. Hi folks, currently looking at a car that needs the rear wheel bearings done.... Any guesses or experience if the likely cost?? Any info greatly appreciated. Ross
  4. Gav... thanks for the link ... and that is half an hour from where my parents live!!
  5. Peter thanks.... I should be clear that I mean 'perfect for me' and not a perfect replica - I think yours is the only one that will come close!! Seller has gone quiet so might be all irrelevant.... Ross
  6. Hi folks, Excuse me if this has been mentioned before, but is this a genuine ad?? http://www.autotrader.com.au/cars-for-sale/view-photos/ATW3563537?photonumber= I note that the pics seem to be from Australia.... but the car seems to be LHD. I have been in touch with the seller and they seem a little hesitant to provide details - and have assured me the car is RHD. Seller is Ross from Ferntree Gully, Melbourne (not me! although I am Ross and used to live in Ferntree Gully). I am still hunting the perfect GTO replica .... Ross
  7. Awesome ... thinking this may be how I go with mine too.... I am in Canberra as well, would love to see this in the metal some time...
  8. Pm sent about bonnet.
  9. Dumb question ... will this work on a 2+2 ... ie is the distance between the strut towers the same on a 2 seater and a 2+2. Don't flame me.... just askin...... R
  10. Where's the rust?? A tiny little lego Lurch fixed it....
  11. Welcome... joining the forum at 6 in the morning on a winter Sunday shows commitment!! Plenty of people here with plenty of knowledge .... and some others like me! Good luck, look forward to seeing some pics of the car. R
  12. Thanks Peter, If you are serious I would love to see your car next time I am in Sydney... looks like a work of art. My preference is to buy a known car from within the club because I can trust the underlying work... the last one I bid on had extensive photographic evidence of the project which was reassuring. I do appreciate everyone's advice and comments here and am in communication with two potential sellers, so some options are emerging. Seems like $35K and up gets a quality build.... Cheers R.
  13. Yes I saw the kit and would have gone that way if I still had my 240z shell... that said, I would prefer a car already coverted than see another 2 seater be lost ...
  14. Thanks mate have seen those and they are under consideration. R
  15. A recent post on here and my upcoming 40th has tipped me over the edge ... I am looking for a 250GTO replica. I have nibbled at one before and missed out (curse you eBay) ... but this seems like a once in a lifetime opportunity to enjoy a mid-life crisis car. If you think you might be interested in selling ... please drop me a PM - I will consider incomplete projects through to complete cars, although obviously the price has to shift accordingly. Yes I know how much a good replica costs, no I'm not dreaming. Appreciate any contacts or leads.... Ross
  16. Going straight home to look in my piggy bank for funds.... Weird variation in the vents on the nose cone ... three in the main pic., blocked out in the other pics and only two in the period racing picture... anyone know why??
  17. Welcome Brevlin, I bought a 240z shell for $1500 a couple of years ago and you have some good options already on this thread. With some welding skills and some patience I'm sure you will build a great car. Sure ideally you save up the big $$ and buy a running car, but slowly accumulating parts, modifying and building is what a bunch of us have done. Good luck mate.
  18. Hi folks, Looking for a good condition black 260z 2+2 roof lining... mine looks like it has been sandblasted (!!). Happy to pay shipping costs. Cheers, Ross
  19. I find it REALLY hard to believe that the oil companies would leave themselves open to the number of court cases they would face if all of these nasty things were true. Unfortunately if you actually try and do research on this you get swamped by work funded by the ethanol producers (which is of dubious quality). Long term research on petrol engines shows "ethanol addition to unleaded gasoline increases the engine torque, power and fuel consumption and reduces carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions. It was also found that ethanol–gasoline blends allow increasing compression ratio (CR) without knock occurrence" (Koc et al 2009). Environmentally, the most recent scientific review (Niven, 2005) says "The study indicates that E10 is of debatable air pollution merit (and may in fact increase the production of photochemical smog); offers little advantage in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency or environmental sustainability; and will significantly increase both the risk and severity of soil and groundwater contamination. In contrast, E85 offers significant greenhouse gas benefits, however it will produce significant air pollution impacts, involves substantial risks to biodiversity, and its groundwater contamination impacts and overall sustainability are largely unknown".
  20. Now listed on eBay.
  21. All remaining items withdrawn and will appear on eBay I will follow through on all contacts that have already been made.

  24. Yup been there. Bought my car already media blasted and it had bad surface rust. Took a bunch of it off and then life intervened. Got back to it 6mo later... back to square one. I found treating it with rust killer and then sanding it back worked really well... did that fwice. Seemed to make the rusted spots sand off easier and some of the rust killers seal the panel while you get to them. So you can do a panel at a time. I hit each section with primer sealer as I finished them. Dunno if that helps, hope it does. Cheers, Ross
