I have a 4.375 in the Z now and it is way to tall for anything except drag racing or hill climbs! The best all round diff I found was a 3.9. Was good at Phillip island and OK for Winton. A 3.5 with a manual trans would be good for an interstate drive or similar. But for quick accelaration, 3.5 you would be struggling....

I remember the cam shaft has these two tabs somewhere near and along the middle where I used to place a large shifter to hold the cam while an "assistant" undid the bolt. It's been a while tho.... hope it helps

While we are talkin about radiators and cooling systems, I just want to know if its just me or if it happens to all Z owners, my current 240Z and previous two 260Z's always without fail, when topping up coolant to almost the top, would spit out almost the same amount of coolant, and stick to a particular level. Not enough to over heat, but the next time I check, enough to make me add more water and start that cycle again......

I'm not sure if that's the same car that raced at the Sheparton Nissan/Datsun Nationals with the Victorian plates "SLAM". If it has been traded around and has the V8, it has to be the one....Unless I'm wrong...

I've heard of it happening before. You are right, the flushing dislodges crap that was covering a hole and then you are left with a leak. It's good to find it now rather than on a 38' day in the middle of peak hour with all your frozen foods in the car....

whats the most rear wheel hp you can get out of the L series
Zedman240® replied to plytme's topic in Engine
I remember a 240Z a while ago running a stroker engine with just 240Z carbies. It seemed to hit a wall at around 5500 - 6000rpm. The carbies didn't let the engine breathe enough at those revs. Any healthy L28 with a lumpy cam, and installing 240 carbs I think is a waste of time. Might be ok for the street but for any more....You're better off selling them and at the very least install a set of triple 40mm dellorto's. I think Dave Robertson in the NDSOC is running that Zed now. You would have to port the living daylights out of those 240 carbs until they were paper thin! -
Just another bit of positive feedback for Better Brakes in Cheltenham. Just recently got my rear R31 calipers and some braided lines made up for $180. Its so much easier to just hand in the old ones, get them reco'd and then just bolt them on, bleed and drive away! Also worked out a way to hook up the handbrake cable..He is always good for some advice, as long as you have spent some $$$ or purchased something. In his office, behind the counter is a sign; Answers: free Correct answers: $10 Answers with thought: $20

Thanks Zeddophile for that info...appreciated! With your zed muchacho260z I think you still have your 3.54 diff in place and that's why you are going 125k's at that rpm. I bought the "black" gear for manual trans with 3.5 diffs from Nissan by accident thinking its for a 4.375 diff. It sounds like it might fix your prob if you still want to run that differential. I dont think auto senders work in man gearbox's. Let me know if you want that "black" gear....

whats the most rear wheel hp you can get out of the L series

Here are my two cents worth too... hehe.. With my NA L28 with ITB's and 76' cam and some minor porting, if my conversions are right, I've managed around 190 rwHp. (153 rwKw) at about 6300 rpm. I never give it a hard time at club events and it seems to be holding up well. Its not a pig to drive around the street either amazingly! I'm trying to keep with the original engine layout, been tempted to go the RB way. If something does let go, rather rebuild the L28 I would go down the RB route..I think I've gone as far as I can go without spending megabucks...Hope it helps ya -
I'd probably stick with the original head (reco'd) and install a 76' cam (568A) grind cam. If u want to call Wade cams in Oakleigh, they may still have my cam I dropped off there about 5 years ago to be re-ground and never picked it up. Went there not too long ago and it was still there. Then you need some good valve springs and new lash pads. Chase up some Alfa wreckers for some DHLA 40's, manifold, softmounts, stud kit and linkages from Autobarn, I can give you a hand setting them up, (done it a few times already) if you get stuck....

Yeah, I'll have to find out how to put the article together and post it! Here are some quick details for u eddii; If you already have those parts, you just need ECU, fuel pressure reg (I used a 280ZX one) Fuel pump and surge tank. Bosch VL turbo pumps are more than adequate. Also sensors; Throttle posi, air temp and water temp. I used a throttle posi sensor from a VT crummydore. VT-VY? should be ok. My other sensors came from the Wolf3d comp I bought. Oh, try to get a thermostat housing (in excellent non corroded condition) from a 280ZX to install the water temp sensor. If you want to keep using your original water temp gauge in the dash. The best thing to get are good quality linkages. Mine are from EFI hardware. Coz he makes the throttle bodies, they all went together easily.. If you live locally, you are more than welcome to come and see it in person...might be easier..or next time there is a mass meeting.. I was once in the aus300zx club and they held tech days when everyone would meet and do little mods on each others cars or get advice. Was a good idea.

Well done! My previous 260Z had "TWO 060" less obvious but some people commented!

Just wondering how all the new meetings for members in 08 are going to be advertised... Need to get the Zed off CH plates and back to normal Reg. Its been a while since I've driven with other Zeds on the road! Withdrawal symptoms...

I know its an old topic but if anyone was interested in putting together a individual throttle body setup for a Zed from scratch, if they wanted a rough idea on price, my setup cost around $5000 to put together. When you add it all up, it sounds alot! Mind you I wired up the Wolf3D on my own after a previous installation; the autoelec took some major shortcuts which costed me 12 months of my time and around $1300 in parts and 3 dyno sessions to find out what was wrong....dammit. If anyone needs more details, I'm happy to answer!

I'm in the middle of typing mine out and get some better pics when the car is off the jackstands! Getting rear calipers overhauled and braided lines made up..

Intake manifold & linkage kit for tripples - Suppliers in Australia?
Zedman240® replied to Toecutter's topic in Fuel Systems
When I set up my triples I went to a CBC Bearings shop and bought imperial threaded rod and rod ends. They fit into the manifold easily. Just needs some work to fit them all up. I can take a close up pic if you need to see it in detail... -
Trevor at Brighton Nissan always seems to go out of his way to help even with finding the right part numbers in the database. Recently bought the two heater hoses that run through the firewall. He knew exactly what I was after!

If anyone wants Rob's number it is 0418 869933; its easy to remember if you are a fan of "Get Smart". Agents 86, 99 and the one that hid in different places 33. Also I think he has a web page selling some new parts. Try doing a search for "Z Factory" or "Z Restoration Factory" can't remember which one!

Rob is still working under the old name of "Z Restoration Factory" and is just over the road where Z worx is in a new factory that has been built (used to be that "Ancon Chemicals" place. He still is doing Z panel beating and metal work ....To me that Justin who has taken over doesnt know too much about zeds.. Rob does have a limited supply of parts still available...some. To me Rob is the only one I trust to do any body work on my 240!
