Ill just put it this way, im a tight arse bastard (if you read my wanted 240 thread you would see) and I got it for what I considered cheap Like I said in my ramblings it LOOKS bad, but in all honesty it isn't. The bog was slapped over some rust sections by the previous owner x2 (He obviously didn't understand the properties of bog) but all in all it doesn't seem to bad. It has all the normal rust spots that they have but it hasn't been masked like most Z's you find out there. Also given the fact that I am doing a roaster resto/mod job on it I dont mind if there is a bit more than expected. I have some more updated that I will be putting up some time in the near future that will show the rust sections and where I am at with the car at the moment.

Chris is on the money Ok, close but no cigar. There was no Zed spins as the engine is out and its put sideways in my shed However, a dog did come and steal the pizza but he managed to do it in such a way that the keys stayed on there. Yeah I know its not that great, the funny part is that the dog managed to take the box with the keys in toe to the next town (some 6km away from my house). The owner of the dog opened his front door to find the pizza box in tatters and the keys on his doormat! Luckily this guy was a nissan lost key member, spotted our tag and took it to the local nissan dealer who then decided to ring us up and tell us he had our keys and where they had been found!!

Thought I might share this one. My fiance left her house key inside last night, where my set of keys happened to be as well! In the confusion of figuring out how to break in she put down a pizza we had just bought home, on top of this pizza box she placed her keys. When I finally got in we walked through the house to the back door where the pizza had been placed, no pizza? one of the neighbourhood dogs or a possum had taken it we guessed? At this point in time we had totally forgotten about the keys on top of the box, probably had something to do with the freezing temperature. When she got up this morning she proceeded to walk around the house looking for the keys. Luckily I had a spare key to the micra so after spending around 2 hours looking for the key she left to go see about a wedding reception. Ill leave the story open ended for the moment to see where people think the keys got to. Think outside the box

After getting home and have a massive sleep to get over the shockingly bad "Ocean view recliner" I had to sleep in; I set to work on getting things apart. I slept through the day when I got home and then my mate bought his ra28 celica around. The celica will be some what of a sister car I suppose. Once they were both in the shed the night flew and before I knew it the sun was starting to peak its head over the horizon!! Things were alittle bit hasty and I didn't label some things so I reckon there will be some trouble getting some things back together!

Dont suppose you have a picture or diagram of the cut and weld required? You also mentioned a company back up a bit that makes a billet set, dont have there info do you?

Thought I may as well make a journal while I’m waiting for parts.... Ok, so where to begin. I have always loved the Z cars and have yearned to own one for a long time. After buying a new house with what basically is a small warehouse for a shed I decided the time had come to get said vehicle! So the search began, 3 years of me being a fussy bastard and ghosting 12 or so different Aussie car forums netted me a number of a "phantom Z seller". This phantom Z seller (Isaac Smith) was suppose to only come out near summer and sell Z cars?! After a phone call that lasted a good hour and a half I had found myself a Z! Isaac had a straight matching numbers 1971 240 that he was willing to let go. Isaac helped me get it from his house to Port Melbourne where I was to pick it up. The wait was excruciating, I hadn't felt excitement like that since early childhood Christmas. It was only a week...... anyways!? I jumped on the plane and had the worst flight of my life (L plate pilot!!), landed and headed for the port. When the truck pulled up with Z in check I was a little taken aback. The car looked bad. Looking inside the car made me feel worse; most of the interior was sitting in the cargo area along with alot of other parts. Trying to get it off the back of the truck was a little difficult. There was no loading bays or areas that could be used to get the car off! To add to that the battery was flat and there was a leak in the fuel tank and where the car was sitting on the trailer had allowed the tank to almost completely empty! shiver! After getting a jump start from the wharfies I drove around looking for a fuel station hoping to not A. see a cop and B. run out of fuel. Once the initial shock wore off and I stood back and had a good look at it for what it was, a fairly cheap matching numbers 1971 Z car, I felt a little better. I had a fairly long wait to get onto the boat and this helped me see that the car wasn't all that bad. Most all the parts were there and there appeared to be very little rust (this may come back to bite me yet). 3 things in my life have never faltered, my love for my fiance, my love of everything mechanical (Z's!!) and my love of siberian huskies. My sibe: Kiara, "Kortierra Obsidian Dream" As such I named my car after my last black and white sibe, Kiara. The Z will eventually be black and white but not in the normal way most people paint Z's. My fiance believes I already spend more time with the car than her so she has name it "The rusty mistress". As you can see here her body language tells the story of what she thought when I pulled up!

Im dreadging here a bit, forgive me! This thread is very confusing. lol! Anyways, after reading through this basically the whole idea is to get a good wheel alingment and if the issue still exists due to be lowered beyond the limits of the standard suspension geometry then get a set of shortened steering arms?!

You could always get the piston made to suit the compression ratio you are after even if its for turbo application? -
I just had one of the best buying experiences through Jesse! I found myself a set of fender mirrors that I liked the look of so I sent the link to jesse to see what he could do. Not only did he reply in 4 minutes, but he also found a set of mirrors CHEAPER and that were genuine nissan spares!! Once I gave the go ahead it was smoooooooooooooth as! Jesse emailed me every step of the way to tell me what the go was and where it was! The whole process took around 10 days including waiting for the lazy arse customs commissioner to look at them! Just thought I would let people know, I currently have him seaching around for a cima half cut (yes he does everything!!). His website is : http://www.jessestreeter.com/ Picture of the mirrors (Yes I know they aren't the proper 240 ones, they are like hens teeth!):

I don't have pictures of the one I just pulled out of my car but I may be willing to let it go. As far as I can tell it is a mickey mouse factory option install or at the very least one from the era, except for the condensor radiator which has been replaced.

These guys started out (If I remember correctly it was one guy) a few years back and grew exponentially to what they are now. I personally have used there rods in my RB30DET I had in my old s13. They are great to deal with and the product they deliver is fantastic! -
Either way scando you would have been fine with the l28et anyways. Its a prick of a system and you can tell it was made for people who build ICV not modifiers. The modification section is always tacked onto the end of the pdf. Its really quite annoying the stance the government and authorities have taken towards ICV and modifiers. You can build almost anything you want in the US and NZ (along with many other countries) as long as it passes a warrant of fitness and meets an engineers requirements.

I don't suppose these are NCOP 1? ----> http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/vsb_ncop.aspx I did ring up dier here around 2 weeks ago and got directed to NCOP and it is on there modification form on the front page, so I'm assuming that they have adopted them? It just unreal some of the restrictions, you nearly can't do anything to your car!
-
They don't list a price on them, I think that is for a good reason!

This is the only way that I can think of that people are still legally getting away with installing bigger v8s in the s30 chassis!? A 240 is merely a variation of a fairlady Z which had 5 different engines in it (l20, s20, l24, l26 and l28) anyways. Im going to try it on because if I dont then I can install a vh41 legally and as it is if its not over 1100kg then I cant supercharge is legally either (even at 1100kg I still have to destroke it to 3.9l).

Maximum engine CC calculation. At present the calculation in NCOP is: Tare weight X NCOP 800-1100KG multiplier = Max engine size in CC's 1020kg X 4 = 4080CC's :'( I thought it might be very low like the figure you listed but there looks to be some room for movement due to the vague nature of the weight explanation in NCOP. This is what NCOP states about where to get tare weight: "The weight referred to in the table is the "original" unmodified weight of the model vehicle with the largest engine available for the model but without optional accessories (air conditioning, tow bars etc.) The weight of the vehicle whether it is a sedan, station wagon, utility, etc, should be based on the heaviest sedan model (not station wagon version)" So from this I can summize a few things. A: The heaviest model of the S30 range is the 280z, weighing in at a hefty 1304! So that would put me in another bracket an allow me to use a x5 multiplier. B: Seeing as there are no sedan s30 models, the closest thing I could use is a 2+2. C: There is no mention of the model needing to be sold to Australia. Seeing as the s30 was built in japan then imported for sale, I would go so far as to say I should be able to use any of the 10+ (can remember exact number) variations of the S30 series! I'm going to fill in an application and take it to Tubby in Perth to see what he thinks, if its all kosher then ill provide him with the supporting documentation (of which some I am still looking for).

I am after the tare weight of a tassie rego'd 240z, at the moment im going through the modification application and I can't seem to find a definitive answer for the weight. So I guess if I use the weight from the rego papers it has to be taken as true?!?

I just took out both my Z's windscreen and a windscreen from an ra28 celica which had the same problem as what you are having. The Z wasn't too bad but was still excessive and rust had been covered. The Celica on the other hand was sikaflexed to buggery, so much of it that I had to use a small garden spade to get it all out!?!? Like hunter has said though the windscreen fitters are only paid to do one job. If you are looking at getting another one put in then maybe take the old one out yourself then repair the rust before the new one goes in.
