Alright so I guess we'll cancel then, just incase anyone planned on turning up
-
Hi guys, checked out the Hawthorne garage today. They do coffee (supposedly good but I'm not a huge coffee person so couldn't say) and they have deli style foods like quiches, pies, sausage rolls, tortillas, sandwiches and rice paper rolls etc. if you want a snack. There's tables etc. out the front. Let's do 3:30pm there for a chat and coffee. If you want, park out the back in the direction of the arrows in the picture (if the spots are available), might be good for a photo. If anyone wants go for a drive and/or photos after we can decide on the day Who's coming? http://www.hawthornegarage.com.au/contact-us

I'm still keen to meet and maybe grab a few photos. I'll stick with the Hawthorne Garage Plan, 3pm. I will definitely check out the food tomorrow and report back. If anyone wants to come just let me know.

I say we do a meet up on the 8th still. It doesn't have to be a well choreographed run, we can just check out what the weather is like on Saturday and whoever wants to meet up on Sunday can just turn up. There's a place here in Hawthorne called Hawthorne Garage, fairluy central for those on North and South Sides. They do coffee and deli food and have some parking but I haven't actually been there yet. I can check it out to make sure the grubs good (enough) and we can meet there for a coffee/food around lunch or mid afternoon. Anyone who wants to go for a drive afterwards can do so or we can head to some locations for photoshoots (some industrial areas nearby and the ass end of the Gateway bridge) or just head home if either of those is not your thing. If we do want to do photos, between 4pm and 6pm is ideal so maybe we could do coffee mid afternoon. Then we can do a better run next year when Alan is back

Ps if there is rain my place is no good for hosting more than 5 people haha.
-
That's no good Alan! I'm away for all of January too I would offer to host the BBQ but my bbq is dead. I can borrow a webber from a friend if need be though? I have a large yard and a quiet enough street to park in. Near the KFC in Kedron off of Gympie road. Or we could just do the drive and get a coffee somewhere. Or we could do the Yatala Drive-In instead? I looked at the upcoming movies and no combos really grab me but could watch Thor and Hunger Games on Sun 1st December? Not sure how it fits in with any of the above but I would also like a nice industrial type location to take some photos of all the cars. Not sure what's around but something like this would be cool: http://shaun-maluga.com/x-border-run-2013/ Or a big cement carpark or something. I just find the industrial/concrete stuff more interesting for car photos

Oh I just realised you had replied in that thread! haha

You can probably find something local but PeterT was looking into this here in Brisbane: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,12871.msg135373.html#msg135373

Steve needs to buy the set!

Sounds good Alan I vote +1 for your place! Haha or my legs more like it, I went back into the cafe to get my gear and took some photos for a lady doing a book reading thing and came out and everyone was gone haha. Then I had no idea where I was going but nailed it for a bit, keeping up with some bikes in front of me but took a few wrong turns so decided to go home haha.

Love them both! I remember Animal Logic coming to my 3d animation class at uni and showing us scenes from the House of Flying Daggers before it came out, I was so excited to see it Crouching Tiger is a near perfect movie, I get an urge to watch it every couple of months haha. It pretty much changed the 'Hollywood' idea that an audience can only be entertained by any one thing for a minute before they got bored. If you like some of the eastern stuff check out the recent '13 Assassins', quite brutal but very well done. Jet Li's 'Hero' is also a really good movie. If you like the fights in crouching tiger and don't care for story at all check out "The Raid" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uI-V0rrlZBo. It's practically one big fight for 90 minutes. Very well choreographed, especially a 2 on 1 fight towards the end which is actually done with the choreographer but yeah pretty much no story

I got free tickets through Shannons to see an advanced screening of Rush, good movie! Well acted and the actual driving/racing scenes are very well shot... the best I have seen I reckon. Going to see Gravity tonight Children of men is high on my list of favourite movies of all time. I have great respect for the director, looks like he is going even further with his long & intense 1 take shots!

Photoshoot with Sushi in Brisbane this weekend

Thanks George Well most of the photos on my site are shot with a crappy 5 year old Canon 40d. I ordered a 5d Mark III a month ago which I'm still waiting to arrive but I needed some better gear for a job I have on the weekend. So I have hired a 5d mark III, and an 85mm lens which should look incredible. Quite unique for car photos as people generally use a wide angle or a big zoom like a 70-200 or 300 or 400. The 85mm is being shipped up from Sydney so costing me a pretty penny but I'm hoping the results will be worth it. If there are any other decent lenses available on Friday I can get them at a cheaper rate so depending on availability and how many shoots I can do, I might even look at a wide 16-35 as well -

Hi guys, I have a better camera and a couple of lenses for the weekend so book in if you want to do a photoshoot! Trying to cram in a few to pay for it all. I can do Saturday in Brisbane and Sunday/Monday in the Lockyer valley on some country roads. I will be in Toowoomba Sunday if any of the boys up there want a shoot, let me know! $250 for a shoot and disc of images something similar to the following but hopefully better: http://shaun-maluga.com/steves-z/ http://shaun-maluga.com/x-border-run-2013/ I feel like I've really taken a step forward with my work lately so come and reap the benefits of a discounted shoot and give a lil back to the guy that tries to take photos for you at events etc, it would really help me out! Email: sales@shaun-maluga.com

Not a bad run unless you get left behind when taking photos of peoples cars!

Photos from Downshift & Greazefest

Yeah I need to get a mod plate for the brakes, gearbox and harness (which I am in the process of) so I was freaking out a little but if they did pull me over I knew it would be my own fault for not having those items signed off on. But if I go to Downshift again it will be to take photos and I'll take our little Mazda and park outside haha. -

I've never really had an issue, in 10 years I have only had 1 cop tell me that my engine breather with filter was illegal (which it was) even though I had just purchased the car and had it's roadworthy done with it on. Didn't even ticket me just let me go on my way when he couldn't find anything else wrong. There is certainly some less desirable people that got to downshift, it's not everyone but there is generally a good representation of 'bogans' for lack of a better word. I had my gopro going in the car on the drive there. When I pulled up I left it going, thought it would be funny to see the people walking by and checking out the car etc. Most people thought it was funny, it was usually something like that's sick blah blah blah oh there's a gopro in there.... it's recording... SICK CAR BRO haha. There was one guy who was going to moon the camera or flash his junk but couldn't get a 'quiet' moment to himself haha. But then there was one guy saw the camera recoding, went around the back of the car out of view and then kicks the car or something saying "oh no bro". Couldn't see any damage so hopefully he's just kicked the wheel or bumper or something or maybe we was just mucking around but still. -

Thanks Aubrey Haha no I was allowed to drive right through, gave them a bit of a wave no issues. I think the community's reaction is a bit over the top. There were large number of cars there that should be defected, so why not setup shop outside the event? If your car is legal you "SHOULDN'T" have an issue, but somehow they feel they are being unfairly targeted. That said, there have been stories of the cops doing anything they can to find (or make up) defects which is obviously not good if true. But I don't know how much you can trust those stories. Everyone wants to bitch and moan that they are victims and the cops are being so unfair to them, catch rapists and murders instead blah blah blah. I would like to see actual stats on how many legitimate defects were found, I reckon % wise it's probably a good use of police resources. -
Hey guys, I've uploaded a few photos from Greazefest a couple of weeks ago and a Downshift meet yesterday.
