  1. yeah, for spark, i was going to run MS'n'S hopefully through a ford EDIS-6 system, there's some write-ups on hybrids that make this seem a very feasable option....does anyone know if falcons ever came with the EDIS system? it would have been mid to late 90's i think. otherwise, a turbo dizzy from the US won't be too great a deal in the grand scheme. as for the oil pump, i simply assumed it had the larger oil pump as it came wit the F54 block and P90A head, but i'd have to check. i was planning on building MS myself, i figure it'll be a good learning experience, although i will totally hit you up for help when i finally get around to all this. i'm not looking to create a monster, just a long term goal of a more powerful yet still reliable z. i'm on my p's until July, and even after than i'm sure insurance on this will be a killer. i might even take a very gradual approach....fitting fuel injection and megasquirt fuel only to begin with....then adding EDIS...and then adding the turbo once everything else is proven as reliable
  2. the F54 vs N42 debate is always on...however, i don't think it really makes much difference, there's supposed to be siamesing of the cylinders, or webbing between the cooling passages to make the F54 stronger, but many claim the N42 is stronger.... it really won't make any difference which one you use... the same goes for P90 and P90A heads, while apparently some P90A heads came with hydraulic lifters, mine has the solid type, and Lindsey from the Z shop told me that every P90A he's seen has had hydraulic lifters, so it must have been a US only thing. As long as it has solid lifters don't worry about whether it's a P90 or a P90A As for finding a P90 head, they only came to australia on patrols (MQ's i think, althouhg there may have been others).
  3. From the Datsun Z Garage.... The E88 came on the 1971-73 240s and '74 260s, in 2 versions, small valve on the 240 and large valve on the 260. It's chambers are the same cc size as later N42 and 47 heads. Despite what some older books say, I can't see why the E88 would have any performance advantage over any other head. The larger valve N42 came on the 1975-76 280Z. 280Zs didn't use a catalytic converter until 1977, so the head came with softer bronze valve seats for use with leaded gas. Many people like these for performance because of it's square exhaust ports. And as a easy mod, putting it on a flattop L28 motor puts compression in the mid 10's. The N47 came on the '77-80 280Z(X). It has diamond-shaped exhaust ports with emission liners, which some feel reduce flow. Starting in 1977 Nissan heads came with steel seats for use with unleaded gas. Like the N42, putting it on a flattop L28 motor puts compression in the mid 10's
  4. say....just hypothetically...someone had an f54 block and a p90 head on their car, and a 280zx turbo manifold lying around...it shouldn't be too expensive should it? i plan on going with megasquirt and using a NA 280zx intake manifold and fabbing a downpipe and buying a t3 turbo...what do you think?
  5. the 260 2+2 and 280z 2+2 (not zx!) should be almost identical...i don't think any of the seals would be different...although to be sure, check the Black Dragon Automotive parts online
  6. hahaha...it took me a while to get that zeddophile...
  7. yeah, it's the same engine basically, just larger bore and stroke, so it fits nicely. you can use the gearbox as well, although i think you might have to cut a little bit of the tranny tunnel slash centre console in the 240 to accomodate the shifter. stick with the 240 carbs for simplicity and performance...the EFI will be a bit of a hassle, but not too much if you can be bothered
  8. yeah, SU HS6 i think i have british carbs on mine too, they seem to run fine. they come on loads of cars, jags, rovers, range rovers etc...
  9. if you're keeping the L28 in it, drive it for a while, and do some basic maintenance on it, you'll get used to the steering. after driving my z, i get bored by the steering on PS cars, it just feels unresponsive and vague. if you're adding alot of weight, it's probably a good idea, but for stock, see how you go without it.
  10. that's hot...do it also, how did you do it, it looks amazing?
  11. you'll be fine, as long as it's registered in WA, i bought my 260 in tassie, and while it came with an engineers certificate, i didn't need it at all, either for road worthy, or for registration inspection
  12. the haynes manual is okay, but the factory nissan manual is even better http://carfiche.com/manuals020/cars/ you can download the 280z one here, which is very similar to the 240, and find the whole S30 series in the microfiche section
  13. someone had a write up on an air conditioning install a little while ago, although this was using all new components, and added up to something like 2 grand....yikes. theres the zworks in mordialloc and a number of other places that might do it. for general stuff you are really best off finding a factory service manual, or get it from carfiche.com, and doing it yourself...they're really pretty simple to work on (wouldn't know about air conditioning though).

  15. i have twin thermo's at the front of my radiator....however, they are not working....like, they just never come on...does anyone have any sort of wirign diagram for hooking them up so i can run through and check it all...i'm pretty dodgy at elecrtics...
  16. the number plate RBZ leads to dissapointment when you see the engine bay....
  17. That sucks... sadly photo's like that of all the bubbling paint and rust on my car would take alot longer to load... i've learned to live with it, in the hope of one day having the money to do it all properly.....sigh....someday...
  18. yeah, my car is the same, it's annoying as the passenger has to get out first so you can reah over and push the door lock down and then get out yourself and lock your door with the key. good to see you got it open... if it happens again you could always borrow keys from a friend with a z, if the locks are old, they'l no doubt work, i know i can use my door keys on my boot despite the fact that they're different locks (new locks on doors)
