  1. I have one of the factory 260Z mags (the 4 spoke design) in gold, tyre on it is a 195/70 and is roadworthy, but flat. I also have a steel wheel and tyre from an early skyline, which will fit a Z tyre on that is also roadworthy. Take either or both for free and get it out of my way! located in Bayswater North. Ph 0401 315 952 or email jezward@tpg.com.au cheers Jeremy
  2. JP240Z: I am surprised that you weren't warned! I think one of the first things I heard when I got my Z was about Lindsay's mixed reputation. Having said that, as per previous posts, Rob at ZWorx/Z Restoration Factory is a great bloke and really knows his stuff. I havent had any work done by Daniel Moore, but I met him a couple of years ago and had a great long chat with him, and he is a very knowledgeable bloke when it cames to Datuns
  3. I have a passenger side door from a series 2 1977 260Z 2+2. Will only suit a series 2 car (ie July 76 to 78). All the internals are there, incl the glass, but not the top glass frame. There is no trim panel. its in good nic, just a couple of bubbles at the bottom, otherwise its straight. Pickup from Bayswater North (Melb outer east). Yours for a slab jezward@tpg.com.au or 0401 315 952
  4. my 77 260z had them...perhaps a late addition, or a regional thing? surely there was no box to tick on the order form for 'hazard light switch'
  5. about $30 from memory. try bursons, they are usually the best priced, and most likely to have stock available.
  6. I had p/s on my 260Z (bought it that way) No idea what rack, but used 260z tie rod ends. There was a slice of the cross member taken out, and the steering column had been modified at the end which attaches to the rack. not sure if it was to change the length or coupling... it used a 260c pump. it certainly makes parking alot easier.
  7. yes, change from gross to net hp more cc's is better, plus the cooling system is a bit better. 260Z is 121kw (2.6 twin carb), 280zx is 103kw (2.8 injected). I would guess the 260Z motor would be about 90kw at the fly (net kw)
  8. i think the Vic Roads word is that if its similar in weight, power and design, its ok. of course its not stated what similar is I had no problems with an injected L28 in my 260Z. The only way anyone (excluding nissan experts) could tell is by the engine number... Also, perhaps the gross hp to net hp changeover could help, depending if Vic Roads are on to it. The 260Z L26 is rated 162hp (its on the build plate), whereas the injected L28 is rated at 103kw (137hp)
  9. Zworx will courier parts to you. Pay by credit card, and courier from Moordialloc to Blackburn was something like $10 (if you want a heap of big things it could be a bit more). Or you could try ZXtra's in Altona, which is a lot closer for you...
  10. its all about the space! not many people have room for a wreck. but to give you an idea...I got around $2.5k for the parts off my 260Z 2+2, but had zero interest when the entire car was advertised for $1k. Sure, a fair bit of work went into dismantling, but it does give you an idea of how pricey the parts can get, given alot of stuff was sold significantly cheaper than what you would pay from a zed wrecker. Also, I had no front end panels, which would be worth easily $600 in good cond (bonnet, guards, headlight buckets, indicators, valance, bumper etc) although I did have a few sought after bits like the electronic dizzy. If you have room, the wreck is the way to go!
  11. I ran twin thermos on my L28 and that worked fine. They operated off an adjustable temp switch. Mine were between the radiator and the engine - theres no way you could also fit the clutch fan in there. I would suspect that being on the front on the condensor, they would not be all that effective at cooling the engine, as the radiator isnt getting airflow from them?
  12. second hand gear box - $300 (reco around $700) new clutch - $170 second hand pedals - $100 second hand master and slave cly - $60 second hand flywheel - $30 so perhaps $700 in parts. you may have to pay a bit more than that if you go to a zed wreckers, try and sounce out someone privately wrecking and you could do a bit better, although the manual converseion bits are pretty quick to go. the manual pedals were one of the first things I sold off mine. for the record, i think about 70% of the 260Z's sold in Oz were auto
  13. probably Vigil or Unique car insurance. I found that they have a similar price, but their excesses are 1200-1500, whereas just car is 850 (for under 25's). I was paying around $320 on my 260Z for straight 3rd party from just car (at age 22 no claims). My main problem was non standard motor (L28 efi) so that limits you to specialised insurers
  14. in my 260z, it was on the firewall on the passenger side
  15. DJM Automotive in Burwood, Fcty 8/8 Evans Rd, ph 9808 2590 I havent had any work done by him but I've had a decent chat to him and he knows his stuff, esp L6's (he had 2 deisel cranks there in Dec). He is a big Datsun enthusiast.
  16. I've seen 260Z 2+2 and 280zx's at pick a part and pick pay n go from time to time. Most of the cars are stuffed body wise but you can get stuff for a very good price there relative to what you would pay at a Z wrecker. That said, I havent seen one for a while, but there is a Z31 at Kilsyth pick a part at the moment (engine fire)
  17. non standard engine is generally the big issue. My 260Z had a 280zx efi engine in it, so that pretty much limited me to the specialist modified car insurers. I was with Just Car, at 23 was about $360 for 3rd party only. I got similar prices from Unique Car & another one, but the catch is the excess - Just cars was $850, and the others were around $1500...
  18. sid280 - thats what they were quote ex factory when new. mine pulled 81.6kw peak on a stock motor (N42/F54) just 2" exhaust, and pod filter out the front, and standard 280zx injection.. Allowing for 25% driveline loss, 105kw standard would seem right....
  19. i had it in mine as well. everything bolts up perfectly. The hard bit is wiring it all up. 280zx factory manual would help there. As said, you need to run the 280zx airbox infront of the radiator (or use a pud filter). Proably worth whole going to thermo fans as well. I used the standard 280zx electric fuel pump. Perhaps the only minor issue is that there is no surge tank. Basically, if you go around a corner at speed, and have less than 1/4 tank of fuel, it will probably stutter a little through lack of fuel. I never really had a major problem with this though.
  20. I'd hazard a guess at around 150 to 200kgs for the engine. The gearbox doesnt weigh much - perhaps 30kgs
  21. The haynes is crap IMO, its a bit lacking on info, and theres not too much on diagnoising problems. Basic stuff is ok, but dont ever use one to change a head, as the dimensions given for the timber to stop the timing chain tensioner coming out are wrong. Spend the extra $50 and get a Factory workshop manual, about $90+post from Pitstop (who are highly recommended)
  22. bdoy corp noise restrictions are different, and are detirmined by the subdivision act 1988. Generally: a member must not make or permit to be made any noise from music or machinery which may be heard outside the owners lot between midnight and 8pm a member must not make...any undue noise in or about the common property or any lot affected by the body corp. That said, body corp managers tend to be farking useless, so they probably wont do anything. And its obviously a bit grey what undue noise it...
