  1. motor is in pretty good nick top rad support is bent, and the rad has been pushed back a tad (about an inch maybe) It would require a fair bit of work on the front end. you can give me a call on 0401 315 952 if you want to check it out (im in Baywater North)
  2. I've always been a big fan of the dark blue/purple colours, i think Subaru had a good example on the liberty a couple of years ago
  3. according to many of the guys on zcar.com, the actual top speed is around the 200-220km/h mark the Zeds have crap aerodynamics which doesn help the situation, although there was a 280z 2+2 in the states which did get a land speed record on a salt flat... my 260z with 3.7 diff and the 280zx low ratio box (0.86 5th) sat on 2800rpm @ 100km/h. if i recall correctly, the peak power comes in at around the 5800rpm mark...thats 3000rpm to triple the speed.... my car did 190km/h on a dyno in 4th gear @ about 6500prm. 4th is a 1:1, so theoretically on the dyno it will do 220km/h in 5th. of course wind resistance becomes a major issue there... motor is a more or less stock 280zx efi (82kw at the wheels) as much as I'd love to see it, I dont think its possible, except with major improvements to the aerodynamics for the record, 180 which was with the old 260z gearbox. had more in it, but the track wasnt all that good a quality
  4. heres the pics. offers invited for the whole thing...ill post again in classifieds.
  5. i think it might be beyond repair...there was a bit of cancer in the front where the bonnet hinges mount, and both those bits are screwed....i dont think its economical to repair... dash is no go...console is ok, has a smallish crack in it near the gear lever (probably repairable) but has two holes cut in the side of 6" speakers... engine is pretty good...head was done about 20,000km ago (perhaps less). Also has a good 280zx 5sp which was reco'd about 30 or 40,000km ago Diff is a 3.7 bit its a bit clunky - best for rebuild not too sure if I'll part it out or sell complete...if I part it out i cant have it lying around too long as i need the space. Any idea what the engine and gearbox would be worth? Judging by the one at fowles or shannons the other wek, the whole car would fetch around $1k or so? anyway, i'll have to wrk out what to do, and of course I'll let you guys know (any offers on the whole car are welcome) and yes i will get pics up at some stage
  6. just panel damage as far as I can see. I'll remove the panels tomorrow to inspect, but it looks like the x-member is ok so I presume chassis is all fine. Not too sure about steering and suspension though. I'd love a project Zed...but really space and money dont permit at the moment. The main probl with this one was that a it was a daily driver, doing work was always a problem as it had to be drivable Mon-Fri... Ill take some pics tomorrow
  7. my own unfortunately front end damage, bonnet, both quarter panels, head lights, spoiler, bumper are all buggered. I havent had a really good look - engine and rad are ok, but Im fairly sure its not going to be worth fixing. Already headed to the land of the boring and mundane with an EB Falcon ser 2, but its on gas so it will save me heaps on fuel! Im going to miss the way she went and handled compared to the Ford though. That said, I will wait untill the weekend to asses the damage, but given the cost of front end panels, I dont think shes worth repair (not unless anyone has a front end going cheap!). I may part is out or sell as a whole not too sure yet its a 77 2+2, L28 efi, 280zx gearbox, 3.7 diff, power steering (yes, thats right). And for the record, I crased it into my own house, and it came off second best! Will get some pics up at some stage...
  8. nah i think it was some shitbox xe falcon that was being chased. Zed was innocent victim!
  9. yeah I saw that - looked pretty nice too. Some wanker led the cops on a chase and then smashed into to parked cars. It was in Kew.\ and the car looked pretty knackered
  10. it was red and it was "sleek the elite"'s car. Pauly and Sleek (the actual people anyway) had a falling out in real life over the movie, which is why the car (or Sleek) no longer appears. It was in pretty much every episode of the first couple of seasons.
  11. try and source a 3.7 ratio diff which came in the 260z 5sp - it will be much quicker (sit on around 2700rpm @ 100kph though). Sounds like you've still got the stock auto 3.36
  12. anyone know where I can get rear wheel bearings for a 260 at a reasonable price. have been quoted $90-125 EACH. the $90 was from Burson thats probably the one killer of the zeds - the price of parts. for comparison, a commodore wheel bearing is about $20 thanks Jeremy
  13. I have it but i've never really given it a good read. It look slike a good reference though. Basically it covers a full frame teardown and rebuild... It does have a lot of good technical component drawings which shit all over haynes
  14. are those 3 figures representing average, good and immaculate? hmmm, buying a Zed could have been a half decent investment From what I've heard, there is reasonable demand there for good cars at a good price...
  15. which would make you pretty happy certainly the 2+2 autos are down the bottom...and theres good reason a paid extra for a manual... now that I think about it, I did see a guy at a servo prob 12 months ago who paid about $7k for a pretty reasonable 2+2...15" globes, front air dam, 2.6l 5sp...looked good but not super... You see all the parts cars going for sale, plus all the ones which have been wrecked over the years...there cant be too many going around anymore, I once read that there were only 4000 260's imported into Aust...of which 3/4 were autos, but that sounds too low...
  16. Just after looking at the couple of cars listed by Gav on Carpoint...looking at all of the Zed's listed on there, prices seem to be $5,000-$20,000 Anyone know if they are actually selling at these prices? Or are people dreaming? When I bought my 260z in Jan 2001, I pretty much found the following: ** 260z 2+2 5sp in good, clean, reasonably stock cond - $5000-6000 ** a/above but auto - $3000-4000 And 260z coupes were asking about $1000 more, although they didnt come up all that often (I didnt want one anyway) Anything with a bit of visible rust (ie in the sills) - $2000-3000 seemed to be the going rate parts cars were around $1000 (mostly 2+2 autos) So is that shimck 260Z 2+2 auto now worth $8,000? Whats the lowdown - who's bought recently or sold recently that can get some realistic figures? (I just wanna know if im sitting on more cash than i think!)
