1974 Datsun 260z 2 seater with rb25det - no longer for sale
gav240z replied to rb25zed's topic in Cars For Sale
Hope this doesn't cause the thread to go off topic, but Evan I don't think you should sell your car. Its starting to look good, by the time you factor in transport costs, change of rego, getting it engineered you'll be no better off IMHO, sorry RB26ZED I know I'm not helping with the sale. Besides I love the green colour on Evan's car. (not that Gray isn't cool!) -
Hi John, Congratulations on the purchase you have bought a fine car indeed. Had I not been in Ireland I would have probably tried to buy the car myself. Believe it or not you're already a member . We don't have an official membership form or fee to pay you just join the forum. Although the way we have been growing perhaps we might be able to position ourselves as a fully fledged club someday or at least become affiliated with another to take advantage of CAMS & Club Rego. That's another discussion for another time. I hope you enjoy the car and take good care of it. I look forward to seeing it when I get back home and would love to be taken for drive in it . *wink* *wink*

That's strange. What time zone have you selected in your user profile? Is the time showing at the top of the forum correct? I can't tell as I'm in Ireland.

Oh Gee thanks It makes it all worthwhile when people compliment the hard work it takes to build such a site. Of course its the community that also makes this place great. I'm always looking for ways to improve the site so feedback is appreciated. By the way it looks like you have alot of work ahead of you with the 2+2 but a VG sounds like a good motor and others have done the swap before. I know of a champagne gold Z with a VG or VQ engine, not sure where it is now. I used to own a white 2+2 many years ago. Still love that car, it went to Z heaven.

If the car sat for a few years have you tried draining the old fuel? Old fuel goes off and this may cause your trouble. Try connecting the SU's (if you have an mechanical fuel pump) to an ice cream container of fuel (don't smoke while doing this). I saw this tip on a show called "The Garage" on discovery with an old Ford Escort. If you smell the fuel it should smell off. SU's can leak a bit of oil from their dashpots but this dampens the accelerator or throttle response more than anything. It should not prevent it from being started and would not necessarily indicate a rebuild is required.

I did hear Sulio was looking to do a quick swap. His Z for a set of Hurricane rims. He's really into those Duke's of Hazard style wheels and wants to stick a set on his new project. A Leyland P76 with custom pink paint.

No Sulio the Zeds not for sale. I'd sell my Mikuni's or LD28 crank, L14 rods or spare 240z SU's before selling the car. I am working and holidaying so hopefully I won't be selling the Z anytime soon. I think I'd rather bring her over here than sell her . Besides what kind of webmaster of viczcar.com would I be if I didn't have a Z anymore? Gotta keep the passion. Now either you didn't read above or your Geeing me up like Sulio. Either way someone is bound to send me a PM about my car asking if its for sale and how much. So to clarify no it isn't and I never had any intention to sell it. As stated above I'd sell some of my ultra rare parts first . If anything I'd buy a second Z.

Sorry I may be a bit out of touch. You could ask these guys in Oz for a quote before buying a Z with a cracked up dash. http://www.dashboardrestorations.com.au/contacts.htm#aus

Robstar, Sulio is correct however engine swaps are quite expensive and its all the little things that add up. I'd try find a nice 240z / 260z with minial rust for around $10k. Something very straight and just a little tired. Dashboards can be reskineed for $300 so its not too expensive. Its the bodywork that will break the bank. As for engine mods, sensible through thought will allow you to make some mods to the original engine that will make it a whole lot more fun. Rb20's are ok but pesonally I'd consider an SR20 or RB25 or Rb30 / 25 combo. There are some nice Z's that come up from time to time for sale but sometimes there is a long drought. A 260z 2 seater can have all the appeal of an early 240z but can be considerably cheaper. Good luck!

If you want Japanese domestic market parts or hard to find bits and pieces you should try Eiji at www.datsunspirit.com he can get pretty much anything when it comes to JDM gear.

Has anyone managed to track down a factory original RHD mirror? I'd buy one if I could find one but have no idea where to find one. I have a set of bullet mirrors (very 60's) very sexy but not sure if I'll mount them. If I cannot find a factory mirror then I will. The XY falcon style tear drop mirror looks excellent on an early Zcar FWIW.

Which car to convert potential can of worms
gav240z replied to Spartan Warrior's topic in General Discussions
Sorry can't agree with that, the C210 was a lemon if you ask me. It was ugly heavy and just an overall disappointment of a car. (Sorry if anyone likes them but its just the way I feel). The C10 and C110 on the other hand are alot nicer but I don't like the C110 in 240K form at all. -

What are you wanting to convert exactly? If you are moving away from the original L-series I'd suggest a 260z 2 seater since they are more robust in terms of body strength and safer too. Also you can probably get a 260z 2 seater in better knick with less rust and at a lower price than an early 240z. Not to mention the later 260z was refined in terms of electrics. Of course if you are like me or Sulio and prefer the 240z rear lights the conversion is pretty straight forward. The dash conversion may be more difficult and possibly not worthwhile. If you are looking to race, depending on the category a 240z may be better if mods are restricted due to emission rubbish on the 260z. I had a 260z 2+2 and it did seem to handle slightly differently and was a bit more forgiving, I find that the 2 seater can whip around real quick in the wet if your not careful. The 2+2 has good luggage space when you fold down the rear seats and make it a 2 seater. -

Hi mate, Welcome to the forum, your member 701 which is great. It seems like there are more Z owners around everyday. Looks like you own some nice looking Z's. I tend to agree about the spoiler on the white one. I'm not a huge fan of the style myself. I prefer the original lines. Good luck and be sure to drop in and ask any questions.
