Moderators Zedman240® Posted October 30, 2008 Moderators Posted October 30, 2008 Cheaper and easier to do the 280ZX electronic dizzy swap. Takes about 1 hour if there are no problems! Quote
warrenz Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 I did the Pertronix conversion with their Igniter coil to match a while ago, fortunately when the aussie $ was up around the 90c mark. Got it $15 USD cheaper at http://www.carshopinc.com/index.php Very easy install and very happy with result and very easy to put points back if you have a problem. Warren Quote
C.A.R. Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Cheaper and easier to do the 280ZX electronic dizzy swap. Takes about 1 hour if there are no problems! +1 The 280ZX/R30 Skyline leccy dizzy is a straight bolt in & go propersition. I don't see the point of getting an aftermarket kit... :? Quote
ol_skl_jp Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 +1 I just done it, and couldnt be happier cost me 80 or 90 dollars from the wrecker, straight bolt on (unless the guys who rebuilt the engine didnt know what he was doing and put the drive gear at a wrong angle). Spark has increased significantly, more power, alot smoother at higher revs, the list goes on, i just have to measure efficiency now should be better though. Definatly a worthwhile upgrade. Quote
nuclear_z Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 sorry to drag up old posts.... I have a nasty automter tacho on the dash of my 240 as the standard tacho wont work with the Haltech, or electronic ignition... I heard there is an article somewhere about which wire goes where when a conversion like mine has been done on hybrid, or here, but I can find it.... Any pointers? Quote
dalee Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Don't know if this will help but my taco wouldn't work after I put the dash back in the car. Car ran fine, I did over 1000km like that, turned out the be the wires on the coil were reversed. The taco was trying to read a -ive pluse? and it was receiving a +ive one, therefore no reading. FYI the car has a L28, on 240z carbs, so not efi Warning- Check with someone who know more than me before trying it! Quote
NZeder Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 The stock 240z/260z tachs read via an inductive loop from the +tive side of the coil not a -tive like newer tachs. I had the guts of mine replaced with a modern -tive circuit board. There is a thread on hybridz about how you need to change the wiring to get your stock tach to work if you don't do what I did. I will be selling my modified tacho in the future as I will be upgrading to an aftermarket tacho now. Quote
nuclear_z Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Want to trade for my lovely Autometer one? Its a fine guage, just I dont like having something sitting above th dash, looking for defects when there is a nice looking one behid the wheel... Quote
